Murasingh gets five for East; Avesh hits back for CentralTripura’s right-arm pace bowler Manisankar Murasingh led the way for East Zone with 5 for 42 to help them bundle Central Zone out for 182 on the first evening of their Duleep Trophy quarter-final game in Alur. Central lost 6 for 35 in a middle and lower-order collapse, four wickets out of which went to Murasingh. The fall for Central started when Murasingh had wicketkeeper-batter Upendra Yadav caught for 25 in the 59th over, before removing Saransh Jain without scoring two balls later. All of Central’s top-six batters threw away settled starts with none scoring more than 38. At 86 for 4, Rinku Singh and Upendra got down for some repair work by adding 61. But before the pair could put up anything massive, Murasingh got Upendra to disrupt the opposition’s momentum. Before that, left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed had struck twice to get Rinku, for 38, and Shubham Sharma for 13.However, Avesh Khan ensured that East didn’t walk away without any damage despite Central’s meagre total. Avesh trapped East’s captain Abhimanyu Easwaran lbw with the first ball he bowled, before going on to have Shantanu Mishra lbw for 6 in the tenth over. He bowled six out of the 12 overs and finished with 2 for 13. East, who ended the day at 32 for 2, had sent in Shahbaz Nadeem as nightwatcher after Mishra’s dismissal. Shorey and Sindhu power NorthDelhi opening batter Dhruv Shorey hit 135 and held North Zone’s middle order together, as North ended day one of their game against North East Zone at a comfortable 306 for 6 after being at a dicey 162 for 4 at one stage. North were also propelled by Haryana’s teenaged allrounder Nishant Sindhu, who ended unbeaten on 76, as they made an inexperienced North East attack work hard in Bengaluru.Shorey, whose innings came off 211 balls and included 22 fours, was involved in crucial partnerships during his stay. He first added 80 with fellow opening partner Prashant Chopra, before Chopra and No. 3 Ankit Kalsi fell to Pheiroijam Jotin off successive balls. Shorey then added 59 with Prabhsimran Singh for the third wicket and eventually another 80 with Sindhu for the fifth wicket.Kishan Sangha then nipped out Shorey and North captain Jayant Yadav in the space of three deliveries. But Sindhu ensured that his side ended the day without further hiccups, stitching a 64-run unbeaten stand in a little over 20 overs with Pulkit Narang.

As próximas 19 rodadas vão responder.

Americans Abroad: Weston McKennie and Juventus seek UCL qualification, Folarin Balogun's Monaco meet Tanner Tessmann's Lyon, Paxten Aaronson's Utrecht in fight

GOAL looks at the biggest storylines among Americans Abroad, including crucial matches in France and Italy for U.S. internationals

It's gearing up to be a big weekend for Americans Abroad in Europe. Campaigns around the continent are coming to a close.

In the Netherlands, PSV are taking Ajax to the wire for the title – but they need to win out and hope the league leaders drop points in two of their final three matches. An emerging storyline in the Eredivisie, though, is who sits beneath the two heavyweights.

Don't look now, but U.S. international Paxten Aaronson is helping spearhead a stunning Utrecht campaign, and if they claim three points this weekend, they could be position for UCL qualification in the 2025-26 season.

In France, two Americans are set to go head-to-head as Monaco host Lyon in the penultimate matchday of the Ligue 1 season. Folarin Balogun could make his second straight start, while Tanner Tessmann will look to lead Lyon within shouting distance of second place in the standings.

And in Italy, it's the biggest game of the season to date for Weston McKennie, Tim Weah and Juventus. The travel to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Lazio in a must-win game if they want to keep their dream of playing in the Champions League alive again next season.

    Race for Serie A top-four

With three matches remaining, Juventus sit in a three-way tie for fourth in Serie A on 63 points – though that's due to criteria points. Essentially, there are five teams fighting for the final UCL spot in Italy, with just nine points left on the calendar.

This weekend, two of those five clash when Lazio host the It's a meaningful match between two of the country's best teams, and it's gearing up to be a season-defining one as well.

For Weston McKennie, it's a chance to prove he is a game-changer for the club amid a spell of positive form for the midfielder. In the midst of reported talks over a potential contract extension with the club, it's become an important time for him to be consistent with positive showings on the pitch.

For Tim Weah, opportunity awaits to make an impact. The U.S. winger started his first match for the since April 6 last weekend, and could look to replicate a rather positive showing on the pitch if handed the chance from the start again versus Lazio.

Regardless of the XI, though, it's must-win for Juventus and their American duo. No exceptions.

    Americans meet in France

Ligue 1 is set to wrap in two weeks time, but PSG have already claimed the regular season title. What is still up for grabs, though, is European placement for the 2025-26 campaign.

This weekend, third-place Monaco host fourth-place Lyon – but just four points separate the two sides. With two games left on the calendar, it's all-or-nothing for both clubs this weekend as they search to clinch a top-three spot that guarantees a spot in the UCL next season.

Monaco, unbeaten in their last four matches, are looking to ride their hot form into the weekend with a crucial three points on the cards. Balogun earned his first start of the calendar year after undergoing shoulder surgery in December, and marked it with a goal last weekend as well.

Ahead of a big potential summer with the USMNT, the 23-year-old will look to return to the XI in an important match on Saturday. For Lyon, Tessmann has become a near regular in their midfield, and the 23-year-old will be tasked with helping secure a victory. However, with just one win in their last four matches across all competitions, the club will be banking on some top-tier showings on the pitch against a talented Monaco side.

    Utrecht's final push

In what has been an incredibly impressive campaign from the American, Paxten Aaronson has helped Utrecht guarantee a top-four finish in the Eredivisie this season. Due to their positioning, and with just three matches left on the schedule, they've secured a berth into the UEFA Europa League qualifiers – and Aaronson has led the way to achieve such a feat.

However, they shouldn't be content with just fourth when third – and a berth in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers – is suddenly realistically achievable.

They trail third-place Feyenoord by just three points, and Robin Van Persie's side meet second place PSV and their American contingent this weekend – a match that could see them drop points. That means if Utrecht seize the moment, they could draw level at 65 points with two matches left on the calendar.

Utrecht themselves have a tough match ahead of them this weekend though, as they take to the road against fifth place FC Twente. Aaronson and Co. have an 11-point lead over Twente in the table, who have just one win in their past five matches.

The 21-year-old American, who starred for the USMNT at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has seven goals and four assists this season in 28 starts in league action.

Getty Images SportWHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER CITY?

Silva and De Bruyne's City will be back in action in the Premier League this Saturday as they take on Everton at Goodison Park.

Man City could sign dream Rodri replacement who’s already bullied Haaland

It’s no secret that the primary reason behind Manchester City’s enormous downturn in form this season is Rodri’s absence.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner ruptured his ACL against Arsenal in late-September, and the Sky Blues’ season has spiralled into oblivion ever since, winning just three of their last 15 matches, staggeringly losing ten of them.

Rodri celebrates scoring for Manchester City.

So, with current options İlkay Gündoğan and Mateo Kovačić ill-equipped to fill Rodri’s ginormous void at the base of midfield, will the beleaguered four-in-a-row Premier League champions dip into the January transfer market?

Man City looking at Premier League midfielder

According to reports from Spain earlier this week, Manchester City have ‘set their sights’ on Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.

Baleba, a 20-year-old Cameroon international, joined the Seagulls from LOSC Lille in August 2023 for a reported fee of €27m (£23.2m), with the Ligue 1 side retaining a 15% sell-on clause, meaning les Dogues will certainly be hoping Man City make a move.

Baleba has been a key figure for Fabian Hürzeler’s side, starting 15 of the last 18 Premier League matches, while only two outfield Brighton players have accumulated more minutes during this campaign thus far; Kaoru Mitoma and Jan Paul van Hecke, in case you were wondering.

Transfermarkt currently values Baleba at €35m (£29m), but Brighton would surely demand more for one of their most prized assets.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

As noted by Brian Owen of the Argus, the Seagulls have earned a reputation as “tough negotiators”, most notably selling Moisés Caicedo for a British record £115m, as well as Marc Cucurella for a reported £62m, also joining Chelsea, while Benjamin White moved to Arsenal for £50m.

So, if Man City do want to land their man, they’ll have to pay top-dollar, but would Beleba be worth a heavy investment?

How Carlos Baleba would improve Manchester City

Of course, any defensive midfielder Man City sign, or are even interested in signing, will be compared to Rodri, so how do the pair compare?

Despite his current lay-off, since the start of last season, Rodri has played almost exactly double the number of minutes Baleba has, making the Cameroonian’s statistics all the more impressive.

During this timeframe, on a per-90-minute basis, Baleba significantly exceeds Rodri when it comes to tackles and interceptions, but is marginally behind for ball recoveries, underlining that the Brighton man is better out of possession.

Raj Cohan of Premier League Panel on Twitter described Baleba’s halftime introduction during the Seagulls’ win over Man City in November as “game-changing”, adding he had the “power to smash Haaland out of the way”.

Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba

On the flip side, Rodri’s in-possession passing numbers are off the scale, attempting close to a pass every minute, while Baleba’s figures are around half that.

Meantime, Rodri completed 546 progressive passes, defined as a pass that moves the ball “at least 30 meters closer to the opponent’s goal”, over eight per game on average, which is a ridiculously high figure.

Nevertheless, Baleba’s out-of-possession, ball-winning proficiency could be a major asset given that, as Barney Ronay for the Guardian noted, Man City keep letting in the same goal on the counter-attack repeatedly, with Pep Guardiola himself saying his team “conceded the goals we didn’t concede” in the past.
