West Bromwich Albion’s upcoming fixtures in March look tricky on paper as Tony Mowbray’s men have two daunting away trips to automatic promotion rivals Leeds United and Burnley in quick succession.

With the Baggies’ poor away form in the tricky Championship also only seeing them pick up a slim four victories from 17 outings on the road, these games will be a big character-building test for the West Midlands side in their quest to cement a playoff position.

Mowbray will just have to hope that his usual star performers in Tom Fellows and other standout individuals can deliver the goods, with his side in danger of slipping out of the top six if they fall victim to more and more disappointing results.

The 61-year-old will be crying out for even more from faces such as the Everton-linked Fellows, considering Josh Maja doesn’t look any closer to being back in the main XI owing to injury.

Whilst the 12-goal striker has been absent throughout his return to date, Mowbray has still been able to call upon his 21-year-old ace, who actually boasts 11 assists himself in league action this season.

The homegrown talent also has two Championship strikes next to his name with the Hawthorns masses often left in awe at what their young winger is capable of.

He is joined in the midfield ranks by a more experienced head in Alex Mowatt, who is also enjoying a fine season in terms of goal and assist output, with the ex-Leeds man up to eight in total in the second tier.

Despite both of their continued glowing displays, there is one former Baggies dud currently outperforming the pair in his native country, after failing to ever get going in the West Midlands.

Cast your minds back to January 2020 and the promotion-chasing side then must have thought they’d won themselves a steal landing a new, exciting attacker for just £1m.

Indeed, former Hull City sensation Kamil Grosicki would relocate from the Tigers to call the Hawthorns his new home mid-campaign in search of a Premier League promotion, with 25 of his usually sublime 26 Hull goals coming in the Championship.

Unfortunately, his time at West Brom would end up being rather forgettable and short-lived, with the Polish ace turning all goal-shy in his new surroundings, far removed from his audacious best donning Hull orange and black.

In total, the 5 foot 11 forward would only amass an underwhelming return of one goal and five assists from 19 Baggies appearances, before heading back to his homeland with boyhood outfit Pogoń Szczecin in a free transfer switch, a move which has now resulted in Grosicki seeing his out up-and-down playing days in style.

Glancing at the table above, Grosicki has certainly made up for lost time with the club that handed him his first senior opportunities, with a stunning 45 goals and 42 assists picked up across four campaigns.

This season, his combined haul of 15 goal contributions means he is bettering both Fellows and Mowatt, with that grand amount also bettering Maja’s 14 goals and assists in the league, albeit in a far less taxing environment in the Polish top tier.

Still, the ageing attacker will just be glad he’s managing to still strut his stuff so late into his career, after failing to ever settle at the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Garnacho’s exit from Old Trafford is looking more and more like a realistic possibility, given United’s PSR concerns, and it is believed that Chelsea could look to take full advantage of this situation to snap up the Argentine.

The forward’s rumoured price tag has varied, but it has gone as high as £65 million according to some media sources, making him an expensive potential acquisition mid-season.

Taking this into account, BlueCo may also be wise to keep their eyes on further alternatives to Garnacho, and Lyon star Rayan Cherki could be a very prudent option.

The Frenchman is widely regarded as a very exciting prospect, and Lyon’s provisional relegation to Ligue 2, as a result of their financial situation, means Cherki could go on the cheap.

His price tag has dropped to as low as £19 million, as per Fabrizio Romano, which could be too good of an opportunity for elite sides to pass up.

According to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, agents have spoken to Chelsea “in recent days” over Cherki and his availability, as they scour the market to find their client a new club this month.

The Blues are keen on him, as are Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Newcastle, Tottenham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and West Ham, who’ve also held discussions with Cherki’s camp.

That being said, all these sides, including Chelsea, have concerns over Cherki’s attitude to fulfilling his potential. However, if the 21-year-old does begin to perform at the level he can, journalist Dean Jones suggests he’d be an excellent signing.

“He’s just different, this player,” said Jones on the Ranks FC Ultras podcast recently.

“If you haven’t seen Cherki play, then just either stop the pod and go and watch him on YouTube for 10 minutes and then come back or just go watch him while we’re talking right now. Because his skill level is outrageous. He feels like he could become one of the best players in the world.”

Manchester United are now set to be offered a new forward who they could land as an alternative to Viktor Gyokeres, it has been reported, in a move that would save them millions.

Major surgery is needed at Old Trafford to create a squad capable of challenging at the top end of the Premier League under Ruben Amorim. The former Sporting coach’s 3-4-2-1 is ill-suited to the current group of players at Old Trafford, something which has seen Diogo Dalot utilised as a wing-back on one side and Noussair Mazraoui on the other.

In midfield, major upgrades are needed with Christian Eriksen well past his best and out of contract this summer, while Casemiro is also likely to be free to leave with the Brazilian clearly unable to keep up with the physical requirements of Amorim’s system. Though both Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have performed well, injuries and suspensions have seen them paired together just six times this season, with more options needed in the middle of the pitch.

At the top of the pitch, meanwhile, there are even more concerns. The Red Devils have managed just 23 goals so far this Premier League campaign, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund having combined for just five between them despite costing the club almost £100m across the last two seasons, while Marcus Rashford has been frozen out and could leave the club this January.

Writing on X on Thursday evening, Ornstein claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January, should the chance arise to snap him up amid PSG’s race to secure his signature.

Now, TEAMtalk report a new development that the Reds are willing to offer Federico Chiesa as part of a deal to sign the Georgian superstar, following a disappointing start to his Anfield career. The Merseysiders are reluctant to pay as much as £67m, so the Italian would be used to bring that number down.

The 23-year-old Georgian could be an unbelievable signing by the Reds, considering he is one of Europe’s most devastating wide players on his day, wreaking havoc with his dribbling brilliance and end product – he has 59 goal involvements in 107 appearances for Napoli.

Kvaratskhelia has terrorised Liverpool in the past, assisting against them a 4-1 win in the Champions League in 2022/23, and Jurgen Klopp has said of him: “He has speed, he is cheeky, he goes inside, he can go outside, that makes it always really difficult.

“A good player and I thought Trent played a really good game against him, was really on fire, didn’t get frustrated by one or two situations where he was second-best, stayed in the game and I liked Trent’s game tonight.”

Granted, some may feel that another left winger isn’t a priority for Liverpool, with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz both great options there, but you don’t pass up the opportunity to sign such a special player if it arises.

Not only that, but if Nunez does leave, Diaz could be used centrally moving forward like he has at times this season, allowing Kvaratskhelia to battle Gakpo for minutes. The idea of him in a Reds shirt is mouthwatering, and it will be fascinating to see if anything develops.

As for Chiesa, on £150k a week at Anfield, he needs to kick on quickly if he is to remain at Liverpool beyond the summer, having not started a single Premier League game this season.

The 28-year-old was also outstanding in Tottenham’s impressive 4-0 win over Man City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, playing 60 minutes with a fractured ankle in what was a heroic feat of endurance.

Tottenham have confirmed that Vicario has undergone surgery on his right ankle, meaning he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Italy international hasn’t missed a single Premier League game since making the move to North London last year, but Ange Postecoglou is now forced to rely on Fraser Forster to deputy for Vicario.

It is an undoubted blow for the north Londoners, given just how much they’ve relied on Vicario in-between the sticks since his arrival.

“One of my mates from Celtic actually played with him at Empoli, and he’s raved about him for ages, so as soon as he was coming here he said he’s a very, very good goalkeeper,” said Forster on Vicario right after he joined.

“Top guy. He’s been brilliant in the games, he’s been brilliant around the place, trains well and works hard, so it’s a good start for him.”

According to talkSPORT, Spurs are considering the signing of an emergency new goalkeeper in January, who can fill in for Vicario while the ex-Serie A star recovers from his surgery.

As per their information, an option for the Lilywhites is Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. The former Man City gem is itching to make a return to the Premier League, after being relegated with Burnley last season, and Trafford is apparently a contender to join Spurs and step into Vicario’s shoes.

The 22-year-old is in his infancy when it comes to the shelf life of a keeper, so this could be a long-term signing, as well as an immediate replacement for Vicario.

However, he won’t come cheap, as reports earlier this year suggested Trafford commands a price tag of around £30 million.
