Romano Drops Exciting Arsenal Transfer Claim As Bid Prepared

Arsenal are targeting two midfielders in the summer window, and are preparing an opening bid for Declan Rice, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

What has Romano said about Arsenal and Rice?

The Gunners made the West Ham captain their top target back in January, and are set to step up their interest when the season ends.

Mikel Arteta wants two new midfielders, with Granit Xhaka expected to join Bayer Leverkusen, and there have been links to Moises Caicedo of Brighton as a big-money arrival alongside Rice.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Arsenal desire a midfielder in addition to Rice, and revealed the extent of their current interest in the Englishman.

"Arsenal will go for new midfielders in the summer, it could be two, from what I understand, and Declan Rice remains the top target. He remains top of the list at Arsenal, since January he's a name that's been discussed internally," he stated.

"We can say now that Arsenal are now preparing and thinking of the first bid for Declan Rice, it is not submitted yet. But they are preparing that bid internally, it means that they are waiting to understand how much West Ham want in order to submit the first proposal, they will also respect West Ham as they are busy with European football, so right after the Conference League they will be able to negotiate with West Ham.

"The idea is in June to submit an official proposal for Declan Rice, so they are now discussing about the structure of the bid, it will probably include some add-ons, so Arsenal are discussing about that internally."

What could Arsenal's midfield look like?

With Xhaka potentially departing, Rice could either be the natural replacement, as a number eight alongside Martin Odegaard, or he could replace the defensive midfielder, with Jorginho or Thomas Partey dropping out of the side.

The other midfield target could determine where Rice is played if he joins Arsenal. Caicedo and Rice could interchange between their two midfield positions if deployed together, or Rice could play as the deeper option with a more creative player coming in.

There have been links with Mason Mount, whilst Emile Smith Rowe has been mooted as an option in midfield, with his future still unclear.

Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard celebrating for Arsenal.

Arteta clearly wants quality in depth, with the Gunners returning to the Champions League for the first time in seven years, and two big signings in midfield could potentially help them compete for the title again next season.

Vernon Philander eyeing Test allrounder role

After missing most of the 2015-16 season due to injury, Vernon Philander is looking to reinvent himself as a Test allrounder as he seeks to regain his place in the South African team

Cullinan: Philander could be an ideal No. 7

Vernon Philander is looking to reinvent himself as a Test allrounder as he seeks to regain his place in the South Africa team. Philander sat out most of the 2015-16 summer after tearing ankle ligaments during the warm-ups before the Bangalore Test in November. The injury kept him out of seven of the eight Tests in the season and all the limited-overs fixtures, and saw him lose ground to a younger crop, including Kagiso Rabada. But Philander is hopeful he can still bring something to the national side.”What I do is unique: I do what I do. When it comes to the batting side of things, that’s a bonus as well,” Philander said at a sponsorship announcement on Wednesday. “We are all different types of bowlers in that set-up. It’s all about combinations at the end of the day. I’ve played a couple of crucial innings towards the back end. Batting at No.8 is just unique. If you have a guy who can bat at 8, that makes a difference. So yes, my all-round ability is something, I would like to see that still being part of the fold. That’s what I bring to the party.”Not only was Philander the fastest South African to 100 Test wickets but he has also scored four fifties in 32 Tests. With South Africa’s Test slide from No.1 to No.6 in the space of five months, it’s easy to see why they might want to recall someone with Philander’s record. However, with Dale Steyn back in the Test frame, Philander will need to replace one of the other pacers, such as Kyle Abbott. South Africa are still searching for an allrounder and they last used Chris Morris in the role but Philander hopes he can claim that spot despite a lack of recent game time.Since his injury, Philander has played only two first-class matches for his franchise but believes he has recovered well enough to be recalled. “The first match was touch-and-go from the mental side of things. The second one was much better,” he said. “I have been working hard in the gym. I am getting tired of the gym actually. The body is feeling good and I am looking forward to the season.”In the two matches, Philander bowled 33 overs and took five wickets at an economy of 2.18, showing signs of his usual miserly self. He also scored 64 runs in three innings. Philander had secured a short county stint, but failed to get a deal and was also not selected for South Africa’s ODI tri-series in the Caribbean next month. Instead, he hopes he will be picked for the A side and then the Test side to play two matches against New Zealand in August.”I know there is an A side tour going to Zimbabwe and I will probably want to play those four-day games before the New Zealand series, if selected. I am probably looking to get ready for that.”

West Ham United Overtake Rivals For "Strong" 6 Foot 2 Tank

West Ham United have overtaken Premier League rivals Crystal Palace to sign Juventus defender Koni De Winter this summer, according to reports.

What's the latest on De Winter to West Ham?

The Belgian first joined the Allianz Stadium’s U17s back in 2018 and has since worked his way up through the ranks to become a feature of their reserve side, as per Transfermarkt. The Italian giants’ centre-back is currently out on a season-long loan at Empoli to gain some valuable first-team experience, where in his 11 Serie A starts and two substitute appearances, via WhoScored, have been attracting interest from England.

Calciomercato recently credited the Irons with an interest in the 20-year-old, who is valued at €15m (£13m), claiming that they were 'ready to knock' on Juve's door, but weren’t alone in their pursuit, with Southampton and Palace also monitoring his situation. Now, though, David Moyes has since been handed a huge boost…

According to Tutto Juve (via Sport Witness), West Ham are still “very much keen” on De Winter and have overtaken the Eagles, whose interest has “slowed down”. Roy Hodgson replacing Patrick Vieira is listed as a potential reason for this, but it’s stated that the veteran’s side are “no longer” as attracted as they once were.

The London Stadium outfit have therefore received the “good news” and are set to face less competition in the top flight for their target’s signature during the upcoming transfer window – though it’s worth noting that Monza and Sassuolo are admirers outside of the Premier League.

FC Empoli defender Koni De Winter.

Should West Ham make a move for De Winter?

Standing at 6 foot 2, De Winter has been lauded as a “strong” centre-back by former Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved and adds a physical presence to the backline with his height, so we think West Ham should definitely consider making an offer.

The Antwerp native currently ranks in the 98th percentile for clearances among players in his position in Europe's top competitions over the past year, showing that he’s a no-nonsense defender and isn’t afraid to clear the danger, alongside recording an 85.3% pass success rate, highlighting his composure on the ball.

The Belgian U21s international would also bring plenty of versatility to E20 having previously operated at right-back and slightly higher up in defensive midfield outside of his natural position, which is likely to be an attractive attribute to Moyes – so we believe this really is a no-brainer of a deal to complete.

£65k-p/w Leeds Winger Slammed After Defeat

Journalist Beren Cross has slammed Leeds United winger Luis Sinisterra after failed to impress and looked "miles off it" in the club's most recent loss.

What's the latest on Luis Sinisterra and Leeds?

The Whites knew they had a big task on their hands as they travelled to the Emirates to take on league leaders Arsenal this Saturday in the Premier League.

And it all turned out to be too much for Javi Gracia and co as they slumped to a 4-1 away defeat with a brace from Gabriel Jesus and further efforts from Ben White and Granit Xhaka sealing their defeat.

There wasn't a whole lot to enjoy for Leeds fans but they did at least manage to score a consolation through Rasmus Kristensen but his deflected effort did little to change the final outcome of the match.

Evidently, it wasn't a fun afternoon for the relegation-threatened team and when writing the player ratings for LeedsLive, Cross noted that one player in particular struggled.

Indeed, the journalist gave Sinisterra a 3/10 for his efforts which was the lowest score from the entire Leeds United squad.

He also wrote: "Miles off it fitness-wise. Heavy legs made everything with and without the ball look a challenge. Feels like a long time since we saw those halcyon days of the autumn."

How poor was Luis Sinisterra vs Arsenal?

When you look at the match stats on SofaScore, it's quite easy to see that Sinisterra failed to do his job and have a positive attacking impact on the game

Indeed, he failed to get a single shot away at goal (either on or off target, or even blocked), while every other attacker who started managed this. What's more, he completed a dismal 8/16 attempted passes (at a dismal rate of 50%), and gave the ball away 13 times (the most of any outfield Leeds player).

The Colombian has struggled for fitness in 2023 so far, but his last Premier League goal for the club came way back in September and he has not provided an assist in his 14 appearances in the competition so far either.

Seeing as he's on a reported £65k-p/w, it's fair to say he needs to start earning his keep soon with some improved performances.

In fairness, this was Sinisterra's first start under new boss Gracia, so it may take some time to find his rhythm but in the midst of a relegation battle Leeds need big performances sooner rather than later.

Rangers: Murray had a transfer shocker with Michael Ball

Glasgow Rangers’ transfer business has been well documented throughout the previous 25 years, with plenty of money being spent in order to vastly improve the squad and progress in Europe, especially under former chairman Sir David Murray.

The club won nine league titles in a row between 1988 and 1997 and in the first few years after the millennium, Murray wanted the Ibrox side to take the next step and become a European force. Of course, millions would need to be spent to achieve this goal, and they were, just ultimately on the wrong players.

When manager Dick Advocaat splash out £6.5m on Everton defender Michael Ball back in 2001, it looked as though the Light Blues had signed a player of considerable quality. It didn’t quite work out well for the left-back unfortunately during his spell at the club.

How much did Michael Ball cost Rangers?

At the time, the deal to bring Ball to Ibrox was the second highest in the club’s history and much hype was generated upon his arrival.

He missed 18 months of football early on in his Rangers career due to knee problems suffered at Everton and this heavily impacted the trajectory of his career.

The Englishman played just nine matches during his first season at the club and missed the whole of the 2002/2003 treble winning campaign.

40 matches in 2003/2004 was his best season at the Glasgow side, although in his last few years, he had to come to a strange agreement with Murray. If Ball played one more match, Rangers would have to pay another £500k to Everton and with the Gers short on money, Ball agreed to pay per appearance.

He said: "I remember it was a match at Ibrox when the gaffer Alex McLeish said the chairman wanted to see me – that's when he put the idea to me.

"Alex asked how it went, and I was still a little bit shocked about what had just happened.

Michael-Ball-Rangers

"I had agreed to pay £4000 every time I played so they could pay Everton.

"I wasn't sure if I had got it right. We had a bit of a chuckle about it and later that day I came on as a sub with a few minutes left. I remember thinking 'that's just cost me four grand'!"

All in all, he made 67 appearances for the club across five and half seasons, which works out at around £97k per game in relation to his initial transfer fee – excluding wages – and this simply wasn’t money that Rangers could afford to waste.

If he managed to keep himself fit, there is no doubt he could have enjoyed a wonderful career in Scotland, however it proved to be a massive transfer shocker by Murray.

Newcastle fans buzzing amid Dusan Vlahovic transfer links

Newcastle United fans have reacted online with much excitement after learning that their club is linked with a big summer transfer move for Dusan Vlahovic.

What’s the latest on Dusan Vlahovic to Newcastle?

Due to the Premier League club’s wealthy owners, the Magpies can now attract some of Europe’s top talents, as proven by recent deals for Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman.

And so, when this season ends and the summer window opens, you can expect Eddie Howe and co to spend big and add some real quality to the Newcastle United ranks.

One name already being touted as an option is Juventus striker Vlahovic. Indeed, as per reports in Catalan media, the Toon are willing to pay €75m (£66.7m) for the player in the next transfer market.

Seeing as the Serbia international turned down the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to join Juve for £66.6m in January 2022, it would be a bit of a shock to see him end up at Newcastle just 18 months later.

But with 19 goals in 45 games, he’s been impressive but not necessarily brilliant and with the Serie A giants caught in plenty of off-field controversies, perhaps a sale could suit both teams.

Either way, amid these links, the Newcastle faithful seem excited. Here ate some of the best reactions…

Rangers given green light to sign Tillman

Glasgow Rangers have been given the green light to complete the permanent signing of Malik Tillman, according to reports in the last 48 hours.

The Lowdown: Beale’s admiration

The United States international arrived in the Scottish Premiership from Bayern Munich on a season-long loan last summer with the option to buy included in his deal.

Michael Beale has already admitted that he would personally love to keep the 20-year-old at Ibrox for many years to come, and it appears that he’s now been handed the chance to do just that.

The Latest: Tillman available to buy

According to Football Insider, Rangers have ‘been told’ by Bayern that they are ‘free to sign’ Tillman on a permanent basis.

The German club are ‘delighted’ by his performances in Glasgow but are ‘not looking’ to integrate him into their own squad.

The Bundesliga giants are happy to reach an ‘early agreement’ through the £6.2m buy option, a fee that is ‘prohibitive’ for Beale’s side.

The Light Blues are therefore ‘yet to indicate’ whether they will take up the chance to retain his services for good.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Tillman has been a revelation ever since joining Rangers so Ross Wilson should definitely act to get this deal over the line ahead of the summer, even if it means spending big.

The Teddy Bears midfielder has so far clocked up 14 goal contributions in 36 outings at Ibrox, where he’s averaging 1.6 shots and 1.4 key passes per league game (WhoScored).

The Nuremberg native has also provided great versatility having operated out wide on both the left and right flanks alongside his natural central position.

Tillman has been hailed an ‘epic talent’ by former Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst and considering the impact he’s made, this is a no-brainer of a switch to complete.
