Spurs struck gold with "world class" star worth millions more than Dibling

The transfer window has been open for three weeks at this point, and despite being in desperate need of some reinforcements, Tottenham Hotspur have made just one signing.

Now, it’s important to say that the £12.5m acquisition of the young goalkeeper Antonín Kinský was a necessity and looks like it could be a brilliant deal to boot, but given the state of the team’s season, it’s not enough.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have been ravaged by injury in defence, and now that Dominic Solanke is out, their options up top look less than ideal.

So, it’s not all that surprising that, over the last week or so, the club have been linked with a whole host of players, including Southampton’s exciting Tyler Dibling, although even with all the hype around him at present, he’s worth millions less than one of Postecoglou’s most essential players.

Tottenham's transfer targets

So, one of the names that keeps coming up in connection with Tottenham this month is Lecce sensation Patrick Dorgu, who’s been pulling up trees in Serie A this season and already has a tally of three goals and one assist in 20 league appearances.

However, while the interest from Spurs certainly feels genuine, recent updates from transfers expert Fabrizio Romao suggest that Manchester United have now gotten ahead of them in the chase.

From the defence to the middle of the park, the Lilywhites have also been credited with an interest in Palmeiras’ midfield destroyer Richard Ríos on more than one occasion this month.

In the words of respected analyst Ben Mattinson, the Colombian international is a “press-resistant” monster with an “engine which allows him to get up and down the pitch all game,” and could therefore be the ideal long-term replacement for the increasingly disappointing Yves Bissouma.

However, he reportedly has a €100m – £84m – release clause in his contract, which could prove an insurmountable barrier.

Now, while defensive and midfield additions are essential for Postecoglou’s side to advance, it’s frontline additions that will excite the fans, and a name heavily linked with the club this week is Southampton gem Dibling.

The 20-year-old is supposedly available for around £55m this month, and while that might sound like a lot for someone so young, his performances this term suggest he’d be more than worth it.

For example, in just 24 appearances, the up-and-coming “game-breaker,” as dubbed by Mattinson, has scored four goals and provided two assists, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every four games.

However, while that is undeniably impressive for such a young player on such a poor side, his valuation is still dwarfed by that of one of Spurs’ star attackers, who occasionally plays in the same position.

The Spurs' star worth millions more than Dibling

So, to get straight to the point, the player in question is none other than the sensationally gifted Dejan Kulusevski.

The Swedish superstar has been one of the few shining lights for Spurs this season and, according to Football Transfers, is worth up to €73.8m, which comes out to a cool £63.3m, or around £8.3m more than Dibling could cost the club.

Now, that is undoubtedly an enormous valuation, but over the last couple of years, and indeed this season, it would be fair to say it’s more than justified.

For example, in just 33 appearances for Postecoglou this year, and in spite of moving between midfield and right-wing, the “world-class” 24-year-old, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has scored nine goals and provided eight assists.

That means the former Juventus star is currently averaging a goal involvement every 1.94 games, which, for a team struggling as much as the North Londoners are, is seriously impressive.

Ultimately, Spurs should still do what they can to sign Dibling this year as he looks like he could go right to the very top and Kulusevski would be a superb player to learn from.

Rangers well placed to sign "magnificent" Scot for bargain fee this month

Rangers are now well placed to sign a “magnificent” midfielder this month, and he could be available for a bargain fee, according to a report.

Rangers keen on a midfielder

The Scottish Premiership title is almost certainly out of reach for the Gers this season, but Philippe Clement is now looking at new additions to his squad, which will give them a better chance of securing league title number 56 next season.

Clement is looking at a couple of Scottish players to reinforce his midfield, with the Light Blues now believed to be in advanced talks over a deal to sign Dundee’s Lyall Cameron, who has caught the eye with his performances this season.

Another Scot of interest to Rangers is Luton Town’s Allan Campbell, who is currently on loan at Charlton Athletic, with it recently being revealed they are likely to have to do battle for his signature with Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian.

Rangers now agree £2m deal to sell Ibrox attacker with "blistering" pace

There has now been a new update on the Gers’ pursuit of Campbell, with Football Insider reporting they are well placed to get a deal done this month, as Luton would not stand in his way if a suitable offer came in.

The Championship side would be willing to sanction the midfielder’s departure for a bargain fee, as he is not a part of their plans, and there is a feeling the player himself would be keen on the move, as he wants to move back to Scotland.

The Glasgow-born maestro has been in England since the 2021-22 season, joining Luton after impressing for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, but it appears as though he could soon be playing north of the border once again.

Campbell could reignite his career at Ibrox

It has been a tricky couple of years for the central midfielder, struggling for game time on loan at Millwall in the 2023-24 campaign, before being shipped out on loan to League One Charlton this season.

That said, the former Luton man earned himself a cap for Scotland during the time when he was a consistent starter for the Hatters, and given that he is still just 26-years-old, there is no reason why he cannot get back to that level.

Former Luton boss Nathan Jones was full of praise for the Scot after he earned himself a call-up to his national side, saying: “He had a fantastic season, got better, got stronger.

“He had to contend with what could’ve been a bad injury early on, but he recovered so quickly from that and was then just magnificent for us.”

With Campbell set to be available for a bargain fee this month, it is worth the risk for Rangers, and Clement will be hoping he can reignite his career at Ibrox.

Barcelona player ratings vs Leganes: Raphinha saves the day for lacklustre La Liga leaders as Robert Lewandowski goes missing and Lamine Yamal has rare off-night

Hansi Flick's below par Blaugrana side needed an own goal to see off struggling Leganes and maintain their title charge.

Barcelona beat Leganes 1-0 away from home on Saturday, thanks to an own goal forced by Brazilian talisman Raphinha. With their lead at the top of La Liga sitting at four points before kick-off, Hansi Flick's side started brightly as Robert Lewandowski sent a warning shot towards the Leganes goal early on, though the forward fired clear of the crossbar.

The hosts threatened despite their limited possession. Wojciech Szczesny had to be alert to deny Adria Altimira, who had been set up by a wonderful run and cut-back from Dani Raba only to strike straight at the Polish veteran.

Leganes couldn't stop the visitors creating chances, however, and Barca so nearly went ahead when Jules Kounde's effort was deflected towards the near post, but Marko Dmitrovic batted it behind for a corner. Lamine Yamal had been kept relatively quiet but soon sprung into action, striking the side-netting after drifting in from the right wing. His fleet-footed approach was matched by the exciting Raba, who led Leganes well going forward, while the hosts also looked dangerous when they tested Barca with a direct approach through the middle.

Yan Diomande had a penalty appeal waved away before the break while Raphinha had to produce a last-ditch challenge to keep the game goalless. Barca were left knowing a more lethal second half would be required to beat a side in danger of relegation, and in the opening minutes of the second half, Flick's team finally found the breakthrough.

Barca nicked the ball and Raphinha was afforded too much space to pick out a cross. Lewandowski was waiting to tuck it home, but Jorge Saenz slid in and ended up poking the ball beyond his own goalkeeper. Any slip-up would have offered inspiration to second-placed Real Madrid, but the goal seemed to ease Barca's tension in possession and punctured Leganes' building confidence.

It should have been 2-0 when Fermin Lopez escaped a few challenges and was bearing down on goal, but the Spaniard contrived to pull his shot wide. There were still some hairy moments at the other end of the pitch, with Inigo Martinez surviving a penalty appeal for handball.

Raba then had the ball in the back of the net for Leganes with a bullet header, but he had wandered clearly offside and the goal was disallowed. Barca were able to keep Leganes at a distance to see out the win, taking their lead at the top of the La Liga table to seven points before Real face Alaves on Sunday.

Man Utd now set to be offered £31k-p/w "superstar" as Gyokeres alternative

Manchester United are now set to be offered a new forward who they could land as an alternative to Viktor Gyokeres, it has been reported, in a move that would save them millions.

Manchester United transfer news

Major surgery is needed at Old Trafford to create a squad capable of challenging at the top end of the Premier League under Ruben Amorim. The former Sporting coach’s 3-4-2-1 is ill-suited to the current group of players at Old Trafford, something which has seen Diogo Dalot utilised as a wing-back on one side and Noussair Mazraoui on the other.

In midfield, major upgrades are needed with Christian Eriksen well past his best and out of contract this summer, while Casemiro is also likely to be free to leave with the Brazilian clearly unable to keep up with the physical requirements of Amorim’s system. Though both Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte have performed well, injuries and suspensions have seen them paired together just six times this season, with more options needed in the middle of the pitch.

Manchester United may have already found the perfect Marcus Rashford replacement.

ByEthan Lamb Jan 10, 2025

At the top of the pitch, meanwhile, there are even more concerns. The Red Devils have managed just 23 goals so far this Premier League campaign, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund having combined for just five between them despite costing the club almost £100m across the last two seasons, while Marcus Rashford has been frozen out and could leave the club this January.

With so much change needed across the pitch and more widely in the squad, and the club continuing to try to cut costs in order to remain compliant with financial fair play, they will need to find some bargain buys to try and help Amorim in the upcoming transfer windows. Now, they may be offered one.

Manchester United offered "superstar" striker on the cheap

That comes as GiveMeSport report that Manchester United are set to be offered Canada international forward Jonathan David this summer as he enters the market as a free agent.

Lille’s no.9 has found the net with regularity across his time with Les Dogues, and has hit the net 11 times already this season, almost half the number that Manchester United have managed as a squad.

Now set to leave the club as a free agent in the summer, the 24-year-old is expected to be the subject of significant interest from around Europe, and the report claims that “United are expected to be offered David” at the end of the season.

Despite being a free agent approaching the prime of his career, there is no doubting David’s quality, with Canadian team mate Jonathan Osario dubbing him “a superstar”. As is often the case with free agents, David would likely demand a significant increase on his £31,000 a week deal as well as a signing on fee, but those figures would pale in comparison to a potential fee for alternative options.

Viktor Gyokeres, for instance, is believed to be available for around £60m this summer. Though his previous relationship with Amorim suggests that he would guarantee goals, he would also be a signifcant outlay for a club who have made all too many in recent seasons without seeing the return on their investment.

The arrival of David, however, would allow Manchester United to sign one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards while also keeping their money for other potential additions to continue to flesh out a workable squad for Amorim.

Spotlight on Roy as England, South Africa seek consistency in series decider

Both teams will want to get their team combinations right with the T20 World Cup less than three months away

Firdose Moonda30-Jul-2022Big pictureAnd just like that, England’s home white-ball summer is at its end.Twelve matches in 24 days may have been a treat for the fans but it proved tough on players and brought about one major casualty. Ben Stokes retired from ODIs after the first match against South Africa and was rested for the T20I series. In his absence, he was never more present as debates about the crowded cricket calendar raged on, all while the ICC met to outline the next Future Tours Programme. While the bigger-picture issues will continue to feature in conversation, England have also found themselves answering questions about how smoothly their transition to a new white-ball era is going. England have looked both good and bad. After beating both India and South Africa by margins of 100 runs or more in an ODI, they lost the first and second T20Is to India by 49 and 50 runs respectively and the second T20I to South Africa by 58 runs. Likewise, South Africa have also swung wildly, from their highest ODI score against England to their joint-lowest. That points to either teams who are challenging each other in all the right ways or teams who are trying to figure things out. There’s time to tinker with ODI combinations but the T20I World Cup is less than three months away and there’s a need to get things right. The hosts have questions over Jason Roy’s form and their best combination of seam-bowlers. They will also be looking at ways to get one of Phil Salt or Harry Brook into the middle order. South Africa, on the other hand, will be thrilled with the way their new-look top order is performing. But they will be aware that it could create a selection headache in the near future. They already can’t fit Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen into the playing XI and that will only get more complicated when regular captain Temba Bavuma recovers from the elbow injury that has kept him out of the tour. They seem to have settled on a three-seam, two-spin combination and have allrounders on the bench in Dwaine Pretorius and Wayne Parnell, whom they don’t have room for. £15,000-p/w Celtic player who Rodgers loves now a target for English clubs

An “amazing” Celtic player who is loved by Brendan Rodgers could leave the club in what remains of this transfer window, as English clubs circle with interest, according to a recent report.

Celtic transfer news

Despite sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Rodgers and co. are keen to add more quality to the squad this month, as they continue to compete domestically and in Europe. There are yet to be any few faces to arrive at Celtic Park, but they are working on potential deals in this transfer window, in the hope they will add to their squad.

One player they hold an interest in signing is Brondby forward Mathias Kvistgaarden, who they have been keeping an eye on for over a year. But a move for the striker will only happen if a current Celtic forward leaves the club.

Kvistgaarden is not the only attacker Celtic are looking at, as reports emerged that the Hoops are in talks to sign Sarpsborg winger Sondre Orjasaeter. It is believed that talks are ongoing over a potential transfer, as Rodgers wants to strengthen his attacking options. But they are not the only side interested in Orjasaeter, as teams from France and Italy are also looking at signing the player, and as of yet, no official offer has arrived from the Scottish side.

As well as looking to add to the team, Celtic and Rodgers may have a fight on their hands to keep hold of one of their best players, as Kyogo Furuhashi’s future in Glasgow remains in doubt, as MLS side Atlanta United continue to circle with interest.

Greg Taylor now a target for English clubs

But Kyogo is not the only player who could leave the Hoops this month, as according to Hull Live, Hull City and Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing Greg Taylor from Parkhead.

Taylor, who is on a weekly wage of £15,000 at Celtic Park, has been with the Scottish side since September 2019, when he joined from Kilmarnock. The left-back made the move to Parkhead, despite the fact that, as a youngster, he played in Rangers’ academy. Taylor was an impressive performer for Kilmarnock, and he continued that for the Hoops, becoming a key player for them and Rodgers in that left-back spot.

Taylor has started 15 of the 17 league games he’s played this season, but with Celtic closing in on the signing of Kieran Tierney, he could be allowed to leave in this transfer window, and Hull Live reports that Hull City are eyeing up a move for the defender to bolster their own options.

The Tigers have identified Taylor as a potential target, but they are not alone, as QPR are also keen on signing the defender, as well as Turkish outfit Trabzonspor and Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb. The 27-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and therefore, he is allowed to speak to other clubs about his long-term future.

The defender remains in talks with Celtic over a new contract as he has a positive relationship with Rodgers, who has described the player as “amazing”, but so far, those talks are yet to reach a conclusion.
