  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Brazil international goalkeeper is seeing serious questions asked of his future at the Etihad Stadium. He has spent seven years in England, winning 17 trophies, but is now being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League – with Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad both credited with interest.

    WHAT GUARDIOLA SAID

City boss Pep Guardiola has done little to quash the speculation, saying when quizzed on Ederson’s future: “I don’t know. He has to see maybe other options. Of course, I would like him to stay but it depends now on the clubs. I don’t really know the situation because there are no contacts in the last days and it’s a question of training and being with us until the transfer window is going to finish. We will see what is going to happen with him.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

City are demanding around £50 million ($64m) from any sale. Ederson would prefer to remain in Europe, but is aware that teams from the Middle East will find it easier to find the funds required to do a deal – while also putting a lucrative contract in place.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper is, according to , looking for a way out of City. Part of the reason for that is the praise that rained down on keeping rival Ortega following a clash with Tottenham in May that saw the German produce a title-defining save from Spurs captain Heung-min Son.

BCCI to wait for Supreme Court nod to roll back key Lodha reforms

To avoid being held in contempt of court, the BCCI will wait for the Supreme Court of India’s approval before carrying out sweeping changes to its constitution, which would result in significantly rolling back the Lodha Committee’s reforms. The court is likely to hear the matter on December 3, listed “tentatively” as the date for the next hearing. The board has, however, reversed one key decision taken by the court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) that supervised the BCCI’s operations until October this year: secretary Jay Shah will attend the next meeting of the ICC’s chief executives’ committee (CEC) instead of CEO Rahul Johri, who had been attending the meetings in accordance with the CoA’s decision. This is a throwback to how it was to before the court took over the BCCI’s administration, when the board secretary attended the ICC’s CEC meetings. The BCCI took these decisions on Sunday at its annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai, which was attended by all its 38 members (state associations).Immediately after taking charge of the BCCI in October, the new administration led by former India captain Sourav Ganguly recommended six amendments to the board’s constitution. The proposed changes included stopping the court from having a say if the BCCI wanted to tweak its constitution, modifying the cooling-off period rule for the board’s office bearers, revising the disqualification criteria, and allotting supreme powers to the board’s secretary. The recommendations were meant to be passed at the AGM – with no opposition expected – if proposed. As per the constitution, a three-fourth majority is required to pass any amendment. It is understood that once Ganguly read out the recommendations to the general body, a majority of the representatives gave their verbal agreement, indicating they were willing to pass the amendments. However, according to one state representative who was present at the AGM, the amendments were not officially put to vote. “There was no passing of the amendments,” the representative said. “They did not put the amendments to vote or in front of the general body. They just said this would be required to be clarified by the Supreme Court first.”It is understood that more than one state association was willing to voice concern if the amendments were put to vote, pointing out that passing them without the court’s approval would amount to contempt of court. Shah to attend ICC CEC instead of Johri
Ganguly’s proposal that Jay Shah attend the ICC’s CEC meeting was approved by the general body, reversing the decision taken by the CoA.At its very first meeting after being appointed as the supervisory authority by the court in January 2017, the CoA had decided that Johri would attend the meetings. Incidentally, the court had said that the BCCI’s then acting secretary Amitabh Choudhury and treasurer Anriduh Chaudhry would accompany CoA members to the ICC’s meetings, comprising the CEC meeting, finance & commercial affairs (F&CA) committee meeting, and the ICC Board meeting. In a note to the state associations, sent as part of the AGM agenda last month, the BCCI pointed out that in order to “protect interests” of the Indian board, which it feared were being “eroded”, representatives to ICC meetings needed to be experienced and have the skills to negotiate. As for the BCCI representative for the F&CA and Board meetings, the general body left the decision to the board’s Apex Council. The next round of ICC meetings are scheduled for March 2020.Before the court got involved in BCCI matters, the board president attended the F&CA and ICC Board meetings, while the secretary would sit in on the CEC meeting. No committee to pick selectors, yet
As per the constitution, the BCCI has to appoint a cricket advisory committee (CAC) at the AGM, which in turn will appoint the men’s senior selection panel and – whenever the need might arise – the head coach. At the moment, the terms of two members of the men’s senior selection panel – MSK Prasad (chairman) and Gagan Khoda – have expired. The general body was told that the CAC and the other cricketing committees would be finalised by the BCCI office bearers “very soon”.Ganguly’s administration wants to approach the court to relax the conflict of interest rules, which would then allow it to have reputed former players as part of the CAC as well as other key committees, including the selection committee.”We met [the BCCI’s ethics officer Justice (retired)] DK Jain yesterday regarding the conflict of interest issue,” Ganguly told reporters after the AGM. “We need to get proper clarity from him about what is conflict and what is not conflict, because we don’t want to appoint someone [for the CAC] and then again he gets cancelled like it has happened in the past. So those clarifications were required.”

Spurs star Bentancur set to play for Uruguay vs Ivory Coast despite injury

With further injuries the last thing Ange Postecoglou needs, the news of a Spurs star continuing to represent his country despite suffering a knock could make for uncomfortable reading for the Australian.

Bentancur to play through broken toe for Uruguay

As first reported by Sport Witness, Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed that he has been playing with a fractured toe for the last few weeks after sustaining the injury in Spurs training.

Speaking to the media after Uruguay's 1-1 draw with the Basque national side over the weekend, the 26-year-old said: “I broke it two or three weeks ago, but I’m still playing the same. I broke my phalanx. I had to stop for three or four weeks for it to knit up, and it was impossible. It was before the game against Crystal Palace in training, but here I go, recovering. Once I warm up, I forget”.

Bentancur is expected to take part in his nation's second fixture of the international break despite the ongoing issue, a friendly against Ivory Coast in France on Tuesday evening.

rio-kyerematen-rodrigo-bentancur-tottenham-opinion

Since arriving in North London in January 2022, Bentancur has struggled with injury, missing a number of crucial games during his time at Spurs. The worst of these issues saw the Uruguayan miss around eight months of action after the midfielder ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during Spurs' damaging 4-1 defeat to Leicester City back in February 2022.

The 26-year-old managed to return from this setback in October 2023, but only managed a four-game run in the Spurs side before suffering a torn ankle ligament during November's loss to Aston Villa. Missing much of the festive period, Bentancur returned to the team in the new year, but has struggled at times owing to his prolonged period on the sidelines.

Despite his issues, Bentancur is still a part of Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay side, with the midfielder set to play again on Tuesday night when they take on the Ivory Coast in a friendly match. With Bielsa's brand of 'murderball' well known to English fans from his time with Leeds United, it is unlikely that Bentancur will be able to take it easy during his next game.

With the Lilywhites involved in the close race for the top four, the last thing that the Spurs faithful would want to see would be one of their key players miss even more games due to injury.

A new goalkeeper for Chelsea? Agent Jorge Mendes pushing Real Madrid shot stopper to leave amid Premier League interest

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin could soon be available, with the player's agent trying to persuade him to leave amid Premier League interest.

Lunin recently joined Mendes' agencyChelsea linked with UkrainianBlues eyeing goalkeeper to push SanchezWHAT HAPPENED?

Lunin signed for Jorge Mendes' agency, Polaris Sport, in April, and the agent hasn't wasted much time trying to find the goalkeeper a new club. According to journalist Romain Molina, Mendes is trying to persuade the 25-year-old to leave Madrid this summer, which will catch the eye of several high profile clubs.

Among those clubs might be Chelsea, who are eager to sign a new shot-stopper in order to push Robert Sanchez for the No. 1 spot. And few look better equipped to do that than Lunin, who entered the limelight last season due to Thibaut Courtois' injury and produced a number of impressive displays, most notably against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

DID YOU KNOW?

Mendes' relationship with Real Madrid soured over Leny Yoro's move to Manchester United, and this latest development is unlikely to help repair things. The Spanish champions are reportedly upset that the Portuguese agent directed Yoro's move to Old Trafford over the Santiago Bernabeu.

Despite losing his place in the team upon Courtois' return, the Ukraine star recently admitted he wants to stay in the Spanish capital, telling Marca: "Obviously [I want to stay]." We'll have to see whether he gets his way or if a club comes calling.

Sky Sports man speaks out on Douglas Luiz’s future at Aston Villa

Aston Villa have been warned that losing Douglas Luiz this summer is a possibility as they look to comply with financial fair play regulations ahead of the new season.

Luiz helping Emery's Villa fly

Once seemingly Arsenal-bound, Luiz has reached new heights at Villa Park this season. Deployed with more attacking freedom under Unai Emery, the Brazilian has scored nine times and grabbed six assists in the Premier League, helping Villa push for a spot in next season's Champions League.

With fifth place likely to be enough for qualification into Europe's elite competition next season, the Midlands outfit have an 11 point gap to sixth-placed Manchester United as things stand, and will be hoping that a strong end to the season will allow them to maintain and even extend that gap to Erik ten Hag's side.

However, it has not been all rosy at Villa Park, with their latest financial reports suggesting that a lean summer may have to be in store unless they make the decision to part ways with some of their star men.

In their latest accounts, the club admitted that they had 'reported a loss for the year of £119.6m after tax', compared to a £0.3m profit last season, and this has inevitably led to concerns around financial fair play, which has already punished Everton once and could yet punish Nottingham Forest and the Toffees a second time for breaches.

It has led to speculation that sales could be necessary this summer should they wish to continue investing in the squad, and several names have already been linked with moves away.

Villa could be forced to cash in on Luiz

Perhaps the most concrete link is that of Luiz, who has previously been subject to interest from Arsenal and now is thought to be on the radar of Manchester City, where he spent two years before joining Villa (albeit mostly out on loan).

Luiz penned a new contract at Villa in October 2022 to ward off Arsenal interest, but will be down to the final two years of that deal come this summer and could be one that Villa look to cash in on. Alongside the Gunners, Football Insider report that City are 'ready' to bring Luiz back to the Etihad after he has 'improved significantly' during his time at Villa Park.

It would not go down well with the fans though. Sky Sports' Dan Bardell spoke to VillaNews about the potential departure, and the Villa fan admitted that it would be a 'heartbreaking' exit were it to happen, but that nothing can be ruled out due to financial fair play regulations.

Tottenham staff totally unconvinced by player as he decides to quit Spurs

Tottenham coaches have now been left unconvinced by a member of Ange Postecoglou's squad, with the player himself making a big decision on his future.

Once a mainstay of Antonio Conte's midfield and guaranteed starter every week, midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been reduced to a bit-part, substitute role under Postecoglou since the Australian's arrival last summer.

Hojbjerg has contributed effectively when called upon for the most part, but you could be forgiven for thinking the Dane would be open to a new challenge and somewhere he can become a mainstay on the team sheet again.

It is believed Hojbjerg is open to leaving Tottenham this summer and has been repeatedly tipped for the exit door as far back as last Autumn. His teammate, Giovani Lo Celso, is also struggling to play his way into Postecoglou's favour – so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Spurs' World Cup winner.

Postecoglou and the wider Spurs recruitment team have pending decisions to make on the futures of some senior loanees as well, with Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon and Troy Parrott all currently set to return this summer.

Leeds United defender Joe Rodon in training for Wales.

Signed in 2021 and having arrived with a glowing reputation, the future doesn't look particularly bright for Bryan Gil. The Spaniard has been on numerous loan spells since Fabio Paratici opted to bring him in from Sevilla, and he's never quite battled his way into becoming a regular starter.

He elected to stay in January and battle his way into Postecoglou's plans, but that hasn't quite worked out, with Gil starting just two league games all season and making eight appearances from the sub's bench.

Gil decided to leave Tottenham with staff unconvinced

Estadio Deportivo have shared an update on the midfielder and his future this week.

According to the Spanish news outlet, Tottenham coaches are unconvinced by Gil, and the 23-year-old has decided to pack his bags in the summer as he wants a return to La Liga.

His dream is a return to Sevilla, but Real Sociedad are also monitoring this situation closely ahead of a potential move. This is quite a sad end for Gil if he does opt to make a return to his homeland, as he arrived in north London with bags of potential.

"You know about Bryan Gil we are talking about a player who was born to play football," said Conte in 2023.

"He understands football quickly. He’s so clever, so intelligent to understand the situation. Then you know this league is difficult, because you have to be good in quality and be fast and to have good endurance, and he has this type of quality."

Spinners make it 4-0 for India in rain-hit encounter

The hosts were unable to chase down a target of 51 in nine overs as India continued their dominance

India continued their dominance against West Indies in the T20I series, beating them by five runs in a nine-overs-a-side affair in Providence in the fourth game to stretch their all-win record. The hosts were unable to chase down a target of 51 in the rain-hit encounter, losing five wickets in the process to India’s spinners Anuja Patil, Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav. The West Indies spinners had clicked too, stopping India from posting a big total. After 7.5 overs, India were 40 for 7. In Smriti Mandhana’s absence, Jemimah Rodrigues opened with Shafali Verma and Veda Krishnamurthy played at No. 3. All three of them were removed by offpsinner Hayley Matthews inside the third over. The spinners continued to cause damage, removing six India batters for single-digit scores, and restricting them to 50 for 7 at the end of nine overs. In reply, West Indies managed to keep their wickets intact initially, losing just two in the first six overs, but their required run rate soared over 8 – they were scoring at just 4.16 till then, courtesy India’s spinners.A boundary in the penultimate over by Natasha McLean helped reduce the requirement for West Indies to 13 runs off the last over. But they lost two wickets – Shemaine Campbelle was run out and Sheneta Grimmond was caught behind off Patil – and couldn’t manage to find the boundary they so desperately needed.
