Tottenham Hotspur: Fans slam Dimitar Berbatov’s latest comments

Former Tottenham star Dimitar Berbatov has shed light on his time in North London.

The Bulgarian provided insight into life at Spurs during a fan Q&A on Instagram over the weekend, and went on to talk about his plans to take up coaching in the future, as well as how he is coping with the pandemic.

Berbatov was asked to name his favourite memory from his two-year-spell at White Hart Lane, and he revealed the League Cup victory over bitter rivals Chelsea is his best moment wearing the famous Lilywhites jersey.

He answered “winning the cup in 2008, beating Chelsea at Wembley, I scored in that game. My first trophy in England, it was a special moment.”

“Every game for Spurs was special for me. I loved it! I have so much respect and gratitude for the team.”

Popular site @thespursweb shared the clip on Twitter, prompting lots of replies from a large section of the devoted fan base.

After arriving at White Hart Lane from Bayer Leverkusen for £10.9m all the way back in 2006, the striker scored 46 goals and created 24 assists in over 100 appearances for the club, before infamously leaving for Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 2008 (Transfermarkt). He finally hung up his boots 10 years later.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of supporters still haven’t forgiven the ex-Bulgaria international for his departure, as many slammed his latest comments on social media. One fan branded Berbatov as a “snake” while another added he is a “massive tool.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s Massimo Luongo has been crucial to Garry Monk’s system

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Sheffield Wednesday return to Championship action this afternoon as they look to continue to mount a serious playoff challenge.

Garry Monk’s side currently sit in eighth position but have recently been dealt a huge blow off the pitch as the club were charged with financial misconduct over the sale of their Hillsborough stadium to owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The Owls are yet to face punishment so for now, it is business as usual.

On the Chalkboard

The 40-year-old chief is able to call upon a fully-fit squad barring third-choice goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith, which hands him a major boost as they face a trip to league leaders West Bromwich Albion.

Most notable of all, it means central midfielder Massimo Luongo is available for contention for the first time since the Stoke City victory at the end of October.

His month-long absence has actually highlighted just how crucial he has been to Wednesday’s success under Monk.

The Aussie started his first league game since joining the south Yorkshire club in the summer at the start of that month and went on to feature in three straight before injury.

Luongo looked to finally offer the side a box-to-box threat of sorts, and one that could help lessen the reliance on top goalscorer Steven Fletcher.

In those three matches, the 27-year-old scored two winners in 1-0 victories and per WhoScored, amassed seven tackles, three key passes, and four dribbles.

[ad_pod ]

Wednesday have failed to win since he picked up an injury, so it is fair to suggest that his presence in the midfield has been sorely missed.

Two points achieved from a possible nine just isn’t good enough for a team that has promotion ambitions, and that’s exactly why they have slipped out of contention by three points.

Meanwhile, this former Owls man is lighting up one Premier League academy with his goalscoring form…

Birmingham fans drool over Ivan Sunjic’s goal against Cardiff City

It was a highlight in an otherwise dreary day down in South Wales.

Although, if he keeps setting the bar like this, Birmingham City fans might just be in for a bit of a downfall if he starts scoring tap ins.

Ivan Sunjic came in with a bit of a reputation when he signed in the summer, with one Croatian journalist comparing the 23-year-old to Internazionale midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

Quite high standards indeed, and those standards only got higher after his first goal for the club against Derby County, earning him the Goal of the Month award in the process.

He’s since gone about trying to better himself, and his second goal for the Blues might have been more impressive than the first one.

That’s why Bluenoses can’t seem to get enough of it, taking every opportunity to watch the goal over and over again whilst drooling over the strike.

Indeed there were some who were rather annoyed that it didn’t get more recognition from those outside the club.

If he can make it three like this, it would possibly be the three greatest goals to start a club career since Wayne Rooney’s first three for Manchester United.

Leeds fans in awe of Patrick Bamford’s first touch

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been in awe of Patrick Bamford after someone posted a video of his assist for Jack Harrison on Saturday.

You can completely understand why fans were full of praise for the striker after watching this clip as his first touch to bring down the pass from Kalvin Phillips was absolutely ridiculous.

From there it was rather simple as the forward just had to square the ball to the onrushing Harrison who simply slid the ball into the bottom corner.

Bamford has received quite a lot of criticism throughout this season, but the former Boro striker showed his class in this moment, and fans couldn’t help but be appreciative of it.

This incredible piece of play drew incredible comparisons to the likes of Johan Cruyff and Dennis Bergkamp, and while Bamford isn’t quite on that level this touch was quite special.

Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying on social media.

Liverpool fans react as Jordan Henderson expected to start vs Manchester City

Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Jordan Henderson returned to training ahead of the Reds’ Premier League clash with Manchester City.

The 55-cap England international had been forced to sit out Liverpool’s Champions League win over KRC Genk during the week through illness, having been sent home by the club’s medical staff at the ground.

Henderson has now returned to take up a full participation in the Reds’ pre-Man City sessions at their Melwood facilities, and is expected to start when Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues arrive at Anfield on Sunday looking to reduce the deficit at the top of the table, according to The Times.

The £140,000-per-week midfielder’s return is seen to be a positive update for Jurgen Klopp, who confirmed Henderson’s availability on Friday at his pre-game press conference, along with adding that Virgil van Dijk is fit to play after missing training on Thursday.

Some Liverpool supporters are not reacting in a positive voice to The Times’ suggestion that Henderson will start on Sunday, as a few appear keen to see the Three Lions man’s place taken by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Henderson has started eight of his ten Premier League appearances this season, only sitting out the Reds’ 3-1 win over Newcastle United in September.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, meanwhile, scored against Genk on Tuesday night, as he rippled the back of the net for the second time in a week after riffling home against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

Here are some of the messages shared in response to news that Henderson is expected to start against Manchester City…

Liverpool’s 4 most Jurgen Klopp moments since his arrival

One Champions League, one Super Cup and one pair of broken glasses. A lot has happened since Jurgen Klopp took over at Liverpool four years ago.

The irresistibly charismatic German took charge at Anfield on October 8, 2015, and has watched his team score 458 goals, set a club-record for consecutive league victories and be crowned kings of Europe.

With every man and his dog reflecting on the boss’ ‘best’ moments however, we felt it was more fitting to look at the moments that encapsulate the man who has transformed a club and fanbase.

These are the four most Klopp things the gaffer has done since his arrival.

Doubters to believers

We’ve heard it a million times now, but that doesn’t mean we’re getting bored of it.

Klopp arrived to a chorus of ‘collapsed at Dortmund’ and ‘won’t succeed in England’ shouts from rival fans, and more importantly there was plenty of pessimism from Reds fans themselves, fed up after years of failing to compete with the big boys.

The 52 year-old’s message to the Anfield faithful to “change from doubters to believers” has echoed throughout everything he has done since, right down to the cheeky grin on his face when he said it.

Norwich 4-5 Liverpool

Brilliant, chaotic and scarcely believable – has there ever been a more Klopp fixture than the 5-4 win at Carrow Road?

The four goals conceded pretty much sum up how poor the defence was during his first couple of campaigns, the goals from Jordan Henderson and James Milner remind us of their importance in Klopp’s revolution, while the crazy celebration after Adam Lallana’s late winner was just vintage Klopp.

Liverpool 4-3 Dortmund

If changing doubters to believers was the name of Klopp’s guidebook to turning the club around, then the comeback against his former employers was chapter one.

Not only did it seem implausible that the Reds would turn it around after conceding three away goals, is there anything more Klopp than Dejan Lovren, a man ridiculed and crucified at every opportunity, scoring the winner in front of the Kop? We think not.

Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona

You may look to the Champions League final in Madrid as the final marker of Klopp’s progress, but let’s be honest, UEFA could have printed Liverpool’s name on the cup after the 4-0 win over Barcelona.

Not only was it yet another dramatic comeback, it was truly against all odds. No Mohamed Salah. No Roberto Firmino. No chance.

If ever a match summed up the manic pressing, brilliant football, defensive solidity and never-say-die attitude Klopp has built on the red half of Merseyside, it was this one.

Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic might be the latest victim of their poor transfer policy

Even though it was far from the revolution many were probably expecting to see, Real Madrid’s 2019 summer transfer window was still extremely busy, to say the least.

Florentino Perez decided to shift many names and then rejuvenate the squad with some young and talented players from abroad.

The likes of Rodrygo, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao joined the team in what seemed like a serious piece of business. Of course, we mustn’t forget the biggest scoop of them all, Eden Hazard, who was Zinedine Zidane’s Galactico purchase.

But one player managed to get many excited despite his young age. Luka Jovic, the 21-year-old Serbian forward, was destined to become football’s next big striker.

After all, his spell with Eintracht Frankfurt not only suggested as much but it also turned the gaze of many European giants towards him.

In the end, he decided to don the white kit of Los Blancos in a move that reportedly cost “papa Perez” around £53.2m without certain add-ons which could bump the price even higher in the future.

If there’s any future for the young Serbian in the Spanish capital at all, that is.

It really did seem like a brilliant piece of news for all the Madridistas and the club in general at the very beginning.

After all, Karim Benzema, their star striker at the club is already 31 years of age and not getting any younger, Cristiano Ronaldo is long gone and other than them, the Whites don’t really have a prolific goalscorer in their ranks.

At least they didn’t have one until Jovic joined them last summer.

In his last season in Germany, he really blossomed into an elite finisher.

The 2018/19 season was the peak of his young career as the Serbian managed to net 27 goals and assist seven more in the 48 games he played for Eintracht Frankfurt across all competitions.

Not to mention that he tallied ten goals in 14 Europa League appearances, proving he can tango with the best of them in big games on big stages as well.

Overall, he recorded 36 goals and assisted nine in 75 games for the German team, almost managing a goal every second game.

By all standards, and especially when adding his age into the equation, that was a rather impressive detail to put into his CV at the end of the day.

But a move to Real Madrid might have arrived just a bit too early. That or he simply ended up being a victim of the Galacticos’ poor planning and even poorer transfer policy.

Of course, scooping up young talent before your rivals do is nothing particularly new in the modern days of football, but allowing that talent to go to waste while sitting on the bench is still bad decision-making.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

Since his arrival at the club and the start of the new campaign, Jovic has played in a total of seven games, which doesn’t seem as bad at first but he was in the starting XI only twice, tallying just 218 minutes across all competitions.

And since we’re talking about a young player who needs time to adjust and develop, that is still not really a cause for alarm.

What is concerning, though, is the club’s reported plans in the upcoming transfer windows.

It seems that Real Madrid are on a hunt for a new striker and not only that, Benzema might be getting a brand new contract pretty soon, if reports from El Chiringuito are anything to go by.

So far, the Galacticos have been linked with both Harry Kane and Lautaro Martinez, who look like good replacements for the 31-year-old Frenchman.

But the arrival of either of those two could spell even more trouble for Jovic, who is struggling for minutes as it is.

More competition could starve him of game time entirely, especially if someone of Kane’s stature was to arrive in the capital.

This puts their whole transfer policy into question because it places the decision to bring Jovic into the club under the microscope. Why scoop a young player in need of minutes only to chain him to the bench and then bring other stars to fill his position in the future?

Not to mention that he’s not exactly the only player who might suffer a similar fate in the capital but his case might be the worst one, highlights these policy problems the most.

A move to Real Madrid might’ve seemed like a dream back then but if something doesn’t change quickly, this dream could certainly turn into a nightmare for the young Serbian.

And the worst thing is, it would be through no fault of his as he was never actually given a proper chance to show what he can do.

Of course, it is still early in his Real Madrid career but Zidane has to make sure that his time in the capital doesn’t stagnate before it’s been given a chance to take off.

That would definitely be a shame for all parties involved.

Newcastle’s Matty Longstaff praised by Sky Sports pundits after debut goal

Matty Longstaff’s Newcastle United debut couldn’t have gone better if he had written the script for it himself.

The teenager has immediately become a fan favourite at St James’ Park after netting the only goal in the Magpies’ 1-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday evening.

Watch Newcastle United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The midfielder bagged in the second half from 25 yards out, and his goal would prove to be decisive.

Scoring on your debut is one thing, but doing it with a peach of an effort against one of the biggest clubs in the world is something else entirely.

Sky Sports’ top pundits were clearly very impressed with how the youngster took his goal.

Jamie Redknapp, Graeme Souness and Gary Neville were all in awe of the way the Newcastle man struck the ball.

Redknapp even compared him to David Beckham while Souness and Neville waxed lyrical about the strike.

It remains to be seen whether or not this becomes something of a trademark for Longstaff as it’s his first-ever league start, but based off of his debut he certainly has the right technique to be scoring from distance.

Arsenal fans buzzing with Matteo Guendouzi after north London derby draw

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal put in an impressive comeback against Spurs on Sunday afternoon after being stunned early by the visitors at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were behind courtesy of goals from Christan Eriksen and Harry Kane, but Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ensured the game was drawn.

Unai Emery’s midfield had a rather defensive look to it with Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi starting together.

However, it was the latter who impressed the most, earning the assist for Arsenal’s second of the evening.

He earned a host of plaudits from fans on Twitter, as they struggled to contain themselves after his showing.

The 20-year-old was hailed as someone who could become a world-beater in two to three years, which was followed up by someone saying he deserves the captain’s armband in a similar sort of time frame.

A further individual suggested he puts Xhaka to shame after the Swiss conceded a penalty in the first half. He was also described as sublime.

Guendouzi arrived from Lorient last summer and rather surprisingly went onto feature in 33 Premier League matches in 2018/19.

Here’s the best of the reaction from his display at the weekend.
