Liverpool fans want James Milner to sign a new contract

Liverpool fans have been pleading with veteran midfielder James Milner to sign a new contract at Anfield.

The 33-year-old is into the final year of his deal and has become a fan favourite since his arrival from Manchester City in 2015.

The former England international was recently praised by the ex-Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, who said that Milner was the most “frustrating” player he’s ever played against.

These comments echo those made by the former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves by saying that he was the “most annoying”.

Milner has made 188 appearances for the Reds and has scored 24 goals and conjured up 39 assists during his five seasons at the club.

Supporters have been urging Liverpool to make the move and extend the 33-year-old’s current deal with the club.

One fan recognised that Milner has been the heart and soul of the squad, while another suggested that the club should renew his contract and give him a job once the Englishman retires.

Birmingham City fans gush over Marc Roberts after defeating Luton Town

Birmingham City moved to within one point of the playoffs with a victory at St Andrew’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Pep Clotet’s men sealed a 2-1 victory over Luton Town after striker Lukas Jutkewicz headed home the winner eight minutes from time.

Left wing-back Kristian Pederson had handed the home side the lead right before half-time when he met fellow wing-back Maxime Colin’s cross with the final kick off the first half.

But Harry Cornick robbed the goalscorer of the ball to equalise with just over 20 minutes remaining in the match.

The Blues now sit 11th with just three points separating them from third place, so that only goes to show just how tight the division is this year.

Following the match, Marc Roberts took to Twitter to share his thoughts, who received his plaudits in return from sections of the Birmingham faithful.

One supporter hailed him as ‘Mr. Consistent’ having previously been the team’s scapegoat. His manager is undoubtedly inclined to agree given the fact he’s played all but one Championship game this campaign.

Another fan claimed he was ‘solid as a rock’ while a further member of the St Andrew’s crowd believed he was so outstanding that he has to be worth at least £3.5m now.

Aston Villa’s predicted XI vs Liverpool in the Premier League

Aston Villa return to Premier League action this afternoon as they host league leaders Liverpool at Villa Park.

Dean Smith’s side edged into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in midweek by defeating local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 thanks to goals from Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed Elmohamady, although only one of those is expected to keep his place in the starting line up.

The result sets up a tie with today’s opponents sometime in December.

Villa currently sit 15th in the Premier League after Manchester City ended their run of back-to-back victories last time out.

Did anyone impress the 48-year-old enough to warrant keeping their spot for this game?

Football FanCast predicts that Villa will make nine changes to the side that won on Wednesday night with El Ghazi keeping his place alongside Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian really impressed and according to fans, ‘ran the game’ from midfield. He is likely to be preferred to Conor Hourihane with John McGinn and Marvelous Nakamba also occupying the engine room, just like they did against City last weekend.

Smith’s usual Premier League backline returns with Matt Targett replacing Neil Taylor at left-back, which will surely please some of the B6 faithful following the Welshman’s showing against Wolves.

Tyrone Mings, Bjorn Engels, and Frederic Guilbert all also line up in front of Tom Heaton.

In attack, Keinan Davis failed to take his opportunity to impress, so it seems inevitable that Wesley keeps his sole striker spot.

There will even be a surprise inclusion for Jack Grealish as Villa’s star man should beat off injury to feature – Smith said after the victory in midweek that his skipper would be ‘pushing’ to be fit for this afternoon.

Liverpool fans react as Jordan Henderson expected to start vs Manchester City

Some Liverpool fans have been reacting on social media after Jordan Henderson returned to training ahead of the Reds’ Premier League clash with Manchester City.

The 55-cap England international had been forced to sit out Liverpool’s Champions League win over KRC Genk during the week through illness, having been sent home by the club’s medical staff at the ground.

Henderson has now returned to take up a full participation in the Reds’ pre-Man City sessions at their Melwood facilities, and is expected to start when Pep Guardiola’s Sky Blues arrive at Anfield on Sunday looking to reduce the deficit at the top of the table, according to The Times.

The £140,000-per-week midfielder’s return is seen to be a positive update for Jurgen Klopp, who confirmed Henderson’s availability on Friday at his pre-game press conference, along with adding that Virgil van Dijk is fit to play after missing training on Thursday.

Some Liverpool supporters are not reacting in a positive voice to The Times’ suggestion that Henderson will start on Sunday, as a few appear keen to see the Three Lions man’s place taken by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Henderson has started eight of his ten Premier League appearances this season, only sitting out the Reds’ 3-1 win over Newcastle United in September.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, meanwhile, scored against Genk on Tuesday night, as he rippled the back of the net for the second time in a week after riffling home against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

Here are some of the messages shared in response to news that Henderson is expected to start against Manchester City…

Southampton: 4 players who deserve to keep their place in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s XI

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

If you were in charge of Southampton right now, one would presume you’d be tempted to just go back to the drawing board and start again.

The south coast club is in total disarray, sitting just one point off the bottom of the Premier League having conceded the most goals in the division – the Saints have shipped 29 in 12 games.

Many first-team regulars such as James Ward-Prowse, Jan Bednarek, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oriol Romeu started the humiliating 9-0 defeat to Leicester recently, while there are many others who simply aren’t deserving of a starting place right now.

On the flip side, here are four players who do deserve to keep their place following the 2-1 loss to Everton…

Alex McCarthy

The goalkeeping situation at St Mary’s does feel very much like a situation of whether you’d rather step in dog mess or cow mess – both Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn aren’t great, to say the least.

However, McCarthy couldn’t do much about either goal against the Toffees and deserves his chance, especially after Gunn conceded 25 goals in his ten Premier League appearances before being dropped.

Moussa Djenepo

Perhaps the only real shining light in Southampton’s season so far, £15m summer signing Moussa Djenepo has scored two goals in five Premier League appearances this term, and seems to be one of few actual match-winners in the Saints squad.

The electric Malian won the Goal of the Month award for his vital strike in the 1-0 win over Sheffield United, and has done nothing to warrant being dropped.

Jack Stephens

The 25-year-old has recently made his way back into the starting XI, and scored against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup defeat a few weeks ago.

Stephens impressed the supporters on Twitter with his showing against City in the Premier League, and appears to be Southampton’s best-performing centre-back right now.

Danny Ings

Southampton’s top-scorer this season with seven goals, the former Liverpool striker has been holding the torch for his side so far this term – without his efforts, who knows where Hasenhuttl’s side would be.

Ings’ effort levels have been commendable, as he has been forced to feed off scraps for the most part of the campaign – the England international’s strikes against Liverpool, Wolves and Tottenham came as a result of him pressing hard and forcing errors.

Even if he hadn’t scored his seven goals, there isn’t much quality to compete with him – Shane Long and Michael Obafemi, as well as the goalless Che Adams, have shown little to suggest they’d do better.

Man United’s Andreas Pereira silences doubters vs Brighton

When Sunday’s starting XI was announced, one name drew copious ire from the Manchester United faithful – Andreas Pereira.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown an elevated loyalty to the Belgium-born Brazil international this season; despite entering the weekend with just a solitary assist to his name, the 23-year-old midfielder had featured in all but one of United’s 11 Premier League games by that point, more significantly starting 10 of them.

Perhaps understandably then, some supporters questioned why he was being selected ahead of Juan Mata, a well-established No.10 with 41 Spain caps and 110 Premier League goal involvements on his CV, with one fan even describing Solskjaer’s selection decision as a ‘sucker punch’.

Others, meanwhile, simply fumed at the fact Pereira had been selected for the top flight clash against Brighton as United looked to bounce back from defeat away at Bournemouth. One fan declared that he ‘brings absolutely nothing to the team’.

But it was the 5 foot 10 creator who ended up having the last laugh, silencing his critics by opening the scoring for United. He peeled into space on the edge of the box and applied a finish to Anthony Martial’s delivery that hit an incoming Brighton defender before ballooning past a helpless Mat Ryan into the back of the net.

Perhaps there was a slice of fortune about Pereira’s first goal of the season but it proved to be just one aspect of a productive and busy performance. The one-time PSV youngster created the second-most chances of any United player after Martial with three, completed one dribble and landed the joint-most shots on target of any United player alongside Marcus Rashford – three again.

Whether this proves to be something of a turning point for Pereira remains to be seen – an advanced midfielder for a club of United’s quality should have more than just two goal involvements to his name at this point in the Premier League campaign.

But Pereira certainly hushed the starting XI critics on Sunday, vindicating Solskjaer’s decision to give him the nod over the seemingly more popular Mata.

Juventus shouldn’t miss out on an opportunity to land Chelsea’s Willian

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Chelsea’s Willian is currently a really hot product on the market.

Of course, a lot of it has to do with the Brazilian’s contract actually running out in the summer of 2020, which would mean clubs could potentially snatch him up either completely for free or just for an affordable price.

His age and the current status at the club could also play a part.

After all, the Brazilian is now 31 and has not really started his 2019/20 campaign as strongly as we’re used to seeing.

Even though he recorded 1088 minutes in a total of 15 games across all competitions for Chelsea in the ongoing season, he found himself on the bench three times in the Premier League already.

And just recently, all of this was reinforced with links with Juventus and Barcelona respectively, as per reports from the The Mirror.

But looking at those two clubs, the Italian giants should really not hesitate to pull the trigger on this transfer.

And sure, Willian is not the best goal-scorer out there but he still managed to bag 55 goals and assist a further 56 in his 307 games for the Blues, but he offers much more than just that.

His experience, both on the club and international level, could go a long way to helping them achieve success in Europe and besides, he is very much the definition of a clutch player.

Just recently, he captained his side to a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, assisting one of the goals himself and producing a rather brilliant display.

Not to mention that he scored three goals and assisted seven in the 15 games Chelsea played on their way to Europa League glory in the 2018/19 campaign.

He’s also won 69 caps for Brazil, competing on the biggest stages of them all such as the World Cup and the Copa America.

Needless to say, if they’re looking for an impactful player with an elite mentality, a plethora of experience and a couple more years at the very top of his game, Juventus should look no further than Willian.

Even Mircea Lucescu, his former manager at Shakhtar Donetsk, believes the Bianconeri would be ideal for him. Talking to Tuttosport (via Goal) he said the following:

“Willian’s contract at Chelsea is expiring, it would be good for him to change it up a bit after all these years in London. The Bianconeri would be ideal for him.”

Whether they get him for free or on a discount is irrelevant at this point.

Either way, it’s a no-brainer and a bargain the Old Lady should not miss out on.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to bizarre Christian Benteke statistic

Many Crystal Palace fans have discussed a rather disturbing statistic on Twitter about Christian Benteke.

The Belgian forward is still getting picked by his home country despite his poor form for the Eagles, which has been going on for quite some time, now.

After a Twitter page pointed out the striker has scored more in his last three games for Belgium than he has in his last two seasons for the red and blue in the Premier League – a rather worrying stat for all – fans were quick to respond.

His poor form at Selhurst Park has made Roy Hodgson’s patience wear thin. In fact, the number 17 has struggled to get into his starting team since the beginning of the season and has not started a league game since the club’s 2-0 loss to Sheffield United in the second game-week.

Jordan Ayew – bought for £2.5m during the summer window – has instead been favoured. He currently tops the charts for Palace at the top of the goalscoring list, having bagged four times.

Many fans discussed Benteke’s goal record, with a fairly mixed response. Some suggested it wasn’t surprising considering he’s played lesser opposition on the international stage, while another even blamed it on Hodgson.

Here are some of the replies below…

Palace fans, is Benteke’s Eagles scoring record down to him or the team? Let us know what you think!

Leeds fans bash Luke Ayling after Reading showing

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been continued to bash Luke Ayling after his performance against Reading on Tuesday evening. The defender received a huge amount of criticism for his display last weekend and there’s been no let up from certain supporters in midweek either. It has to be said that the right-back had a below-par performance against the Royals as he made twice as many fouls as he did tackles and he picked up a yellow card for his troubles. The 28-year-old once again operated as a centre-back in Marcelo Bielsa’s three at the back system, but unfortunately, he didn’t look too comfortable there in midweek.[ad_pod ]Fortunately, the Whites managed to keep a clean sheet at the Madejski Stadium on their way to a 1-0 win, but that wasn’t enough to keep Ayling out of the firing line on social media.Fans really weren’t happy with how the former Bristol City man performed as they lambasted him for his showing against the Berkshire outfit. Here’s what the Elland Road faithful have been saying about Ayling on social media…

In other news, Leeds fans were left frustrated by another player after their game against Reading.

Leeds fans react to the possibility of signing Dwight Gayle

The Telegraph report that Dwight Gayle could be allowed to leave Newcastle for £15m in January, with several Championship clubs rumoured to be interested along with Leeds.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team was linked with the 29-year-old in the summer, as well as more recently. But since they have failed to bring in a striker on a permanent basis to replace Kemar Roofe, it is possible that they may seek to address that when the transfer window re-opens.

The fee reported presents a big outlay though, and would mark a change in strategy from the Whites, who have recaptured last season’s form despite the outgoings of two key players over the summer, Roofe and Pontus Jansson.

Gayle scored 23 Championship goals for West Brom last term, including another in the play-offs, and that suggests he’d be a great addition for any side chasing promotion – with the Baggies interested once again, as well as Nottingham Forest.

Leeds fans have been reacting to the possibility of his arrival, and there seems to be a difference of opinion amongst the fan base.

Those reactions indicate that he may not be a popular arrival despite his track record, with a concern about whether he fits well into Bielsa’s system, as this season he has shown he has little to offer other than his poaching ability.

Others point to the fact that Leeds already have a useful back-up striker in the squad and believe Eddie Nketiah can provide a solid source of goals if given the opportunity.

Despite that, there are some who are keen on the Newcastle player joining, with one fan pointing out that he is a natural goalscorer, and given the lack of that in the squad – with Bamford top scorer on just seven league goals – it would surely be a wise move.

Another supporter has implored owner Andrea Radrizzani to do what he can to make the move happen, and such an addition could be what the team needs to find that extra edge for promotion.

Gayle isn’t the only striker who has been linked with Leeds recently. Discover what Leeds fans have been saying in regard to the possibility of Matej Vydra joining the club.
