Moyes' next Barry: Everton make contact in race for "powerful" £21m ST

Everton looked to be on their way to a resurgence when David Moyes replaced the beleaguered Sean Dyche in January, and though the Toffees rose toward a comfortable mid-table finish in 2024/25, old issues seem to be resurfacing at the moment.

Moyes’ tenure has hardly turned stale, but he needs a few more signings before the closure of the transfer window, with Everton having struggled to hit their stride in their Premier League opener, defeated 1-0 at Leeds United on Monday evening.

Signings are needed, but since the Sky Sports pundits bemoaned Everton’s lack of activity, a £40m deal has been agreed with Southampton for the transfer of Tyler Dibling, regarded as one of England’s most exciting teenage prospects.

If The Friedkin Group manage to steer that one over the finish line, they look set to turn toward number nine.

Everton lining up deal for another forward

Dominic Calvert-Lewin left Everton this summer at the end of his contract. The striker has since signed for Leeds. He was one stream within a flood of departures, overseen by Moyes, deemed necessary after years of dour returns.

Replacing him, Thierno Barry has joined Everton from Villarreal for £27.5m, but, even with Beto in the ranks, Everton might be interested in signing another talented marksman.

It’s early days, but Everton like what they see, and according to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV, technical director Angus Kinnear is prepared to raid the Yellow Submarine once again this summer, having reopened contacts to discuss a deal for Karl Etta Eyong.

Etta Eyong scores for Villarreal

Though the 21-year-old centre-forward wants to continue his development in Spain, he’s tempted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Villarreal would seek €25m (£21m) for his signature.

Why Everton want Etta Eyong

Beto and Barry make up a confident pairing for the number nine spot, but Eyong’s youthfulness and blooming consistency in front of goal suggest he might be a signing worth making to complete the set.

Perhaps what’s most exciting is Etta Eyong’s slick translation of goals in the Segunda division to a promising return in La Liga.

He’s yet to showcase his potency across many matches at the highest level, but the signs are certainly promising.

Etta Eyong’s natural-born clinical edge and his “powerful” physical profile, as has been noted by journalist Kai Watson, suggest he has what it takes to succeed in ther Premier League, and with similarities to Everton recruit Barry, hailing from the same club, you can understand Everton’s desire to bring him over, having already opened talks.

The Cameroonian striker scored last weekend as Villarreal kicked off their La Liga campaign with three points, winning 2-0 against Real Oviedo. Sofascore’s data reveals the up-and-comer won three duels and completed 80% of his passes too.

The 6 foot 5 Barry’s profile arrested Everton’s attention, and with Beto’s long-term future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium uncertain, striking a shrewd deal for a talent such as Etta Eyong could be a masterstroke

Indeed, he might have that covetous innate goalscoring touch, which could prove worthwhile for the Merseysiders as they package their squad with enough quality and depth to challenge at the front end of the Premier League.

Man Utd now plan to smash transfer record for £100m "powerhouse" in 2026

Manchester United are now planning to smash their transfer record for a £100m “powerhouse” in 2026, having identified him as their prime target for Ruben Amorim’s system.

INEOS' decision to appoint Amorim questioned by Carragher

It has been far from an ideal start to the new season for Man United, having been dumped out of the EFL Cup by Grimsby Town, and won just one of their first three Premier League games, and Jamie Carragher has now questioned the decision to appoint Ruben Amorim.

Speaking on a new edition of The Overlap (47:39), the Liverpool legend claimed the board are to blame for hiring Amorim, given that they always knew he was going to instill a three-at-the-back system.

Carragher said: “So Manchester United right now, let’s say they’re a team in the middle of the table quality-wise, so they get asked questions defensively, at this moment the manager can’t answer. It’s too easy to play against.

“That’s my thing, but he’s never gonna change. So when we keep saying change, and I do think Manchester United have the players to play 4-3-3 more, you’re asking a manager who doesn’t believe in something to do something. That’s his thing – the guy that brought him in, it’s his fault.”

Man Utd agree personal terms with 109 career-goal striker wanted by Wilcox

The Red Devils are making progress in their pursuit of a new centre-forward.

ByDominic Lund Sep 3, 2025

The three-at-the-back system clearly isn’t working, with Amorim averaging just 1.37 points per match since arriving at Old Trafford, but INEOS are continuing to search for players who they believe would be a perfect fit in the formation.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk, which states Man United are now planning to smash their existing transfer record with a £100m+ move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba in 2026.

Baleba has been identified as a prime target to enhance Amorim’s system, and the Red Devils made contact in the summer to ensure Brighton are well-aware their interest is concrete, with the £100m+ asking price failing to deter them.

"Powerhouse" Baleba would be statement signing for Man Utd

Despite their struggles last season, United had no trouble competing for some highly sought-after players in the summer, winning the race for Benjamin Sesko, despite Newcastle United being well-known to hold an interest.

As such, Amorim’s side may still stand a chance of being able to sign the Brighton star, who would be a real statement signing, having made a name for himself with the Seagulls over the past three seasons.

Journalist Ryan Adsett was left particularly enamoured by the 21-year-old’s performances in the 2023-24 campaign, saying: “Carlos Baleba isn’t a Moisés Caicedo replacement. He’s very different – an agile powerhouse in midfield. Very entertaining watch, strong in the tackle and more than comfortable on the ball.”

With United identifying Baleba as an ideal fit in Amorim’s system, it is little wonder they are planning to make a huge bid, but it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese manager can make it to the January transfer window…

Rangers must rue losing star who's worth millions more than Chermiti

There was plenty of excitement building around Ibrox after the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh completed their takeover of Glasgow Rangers earlier this year.

Supporters dared to dream as a new manager, Russell Martin, came through the door and the owners were willing to invest money to improve the playing squad.

The 49ers and Cavenagh oversaw a busy summer of transfer business in an attempt to overhaul the squad that ended the 2024/25 campaign without any trophies to show for their efforts.

Djeidi Gassama was one of the early signings who caught the eye after his £2.2m move from Sheffield Wednesday, as he scored four goals in his first four appearances, per Sofascore.

Bojan Miovski, who scored 32 goals in the Scottish Premiership in two seasons with Aberdeen, also arrived as a headline signing from Girona at the end of last month.

Perhaps the most intriguing addition of the summer transfer window for Rangers was their penultimate signing, Portuguese centre-forward Youssef Chermiti.

Why Youssef Chermiti is Rangers' most interesting signing

The 49ers sanctioned a deal to sign the 21-year-old striker for an initial fee of £8m that could rise to £10m if the £2m in add-ons are achieved in the years to come.

Former Rangers striker Tore Andre Flo.

This means that Chermiti is the most expensive signing made by the Light Blues since they paid £12m to sign Tore Andre Flo from Premier League side Chelsea in the summer of 2000.

Straight off the bat, this makes the Portugal U21 international an intriguing signing for Rangers because they seem to believe that he is a good enough player to warrant such a seismic transfer fee, by their standards.

As you can see in the table above, Chermiti did not enjoy a successful time during his two years in England with Everton, as he failed to score a single goal or provide any assists in 24 first-team appearances.

The Toffees signed the young marksman from Sporting in a deal worth up to £15m in the summer of 2023, with Kevin Thelwell behind the scenes, and they were willing to take a fairly significant loss on the striker after just two years.

His only two goals for Everton’s senior side came in a friendly match against Sligo Rovers in 2024, and his complete lack of impact in competitive games may be why they were willing to take a hit on the £15m that they paid for him.

This is why Chermiti is the most interesting signing of the summer for Rangers because, on current evidence, he does not appear to be worth the £10m, or £8m guaranteed, that the club have splashed on him.

It is now up to Chermiti and Russell Martin to work together to ensure that he delivers consistent and quality performances on the pitch to make this transfer a success, changing the narrative from £10m risk to £10m bargain.

Per Transfermarkt, no permanent Rangers player is worth more than £8.7m, which speaks to how expensive this £10m deal for the striker is, but there is a former Gers starlet who is now worth millions more than that, Billy Gilmour.

Market Movers

Football FanCast’s Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club’s star player or biggest flop worth today?

The Scottish central midfielder came up through the youth ranks at Ibrox and appeared destined for first-team football in Glasgow, before he decided to pursue a career down south.

Why Rangers must rue losing Billy Gilmour

In the summer of 2017, Premier League giants Chelsea swooped to sign Gilmour from Rangers and paid a development fee of £500k for the 15-year-old talent, who was said to be one of the biggest prospects in Scottish football.

Sky Sports reported that manager Pedro Caixinha attempted to convince the teenage midfielder to turn down a move to Stamford Bridge to continue his development at Ibrox, but he was unable to change the player’s mind.

Seven years on from that moment in history, Rangers must still rue that they were unable to pitch Gilmour a good enough project to convince him to remain at the club instead of making the move to Chelsea.

Whilst the central midfielder, whose attitude was dubbed “incredible” by Roberto De Zerbi, was always destined to move on from Scottish football at some point, the Gers could have at least earned more money from his sale by keeping him until he had a chance to shine at first-team level.

Gilmour has gone on to win the Champions League with Chelsea, sign for Brighton & Hove Albion, and sign for Italian giants Napoli, winning the Serie A title in the 2024/25 campaign.

By the age of 24, the midfield metronome has been capped 40 times by Scotland, played 81 times in the Premier League, and played 29 matches for his current club Napoli, per Transfermarkt.

£1.5m

As you can see in the table above, Gilmour’s market value has also soared to a staggering £17m from the £500k that Chelsea paid for him just over seven years ago.

The 24-year-old star is now worth £7m more than the deal Rangers have agreed with Everton for Chermiti, and £4m more than any other former Ibrox academy starlet, which speaks to how successful he has been since moving away from Glasgow.

Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour.

Based on what he has achieved in his career already, it would be difficult to make a case to say that Gilmour made the wrong decision to leave Rangers to join Chelsea in 2017.

However, the Gers will almost certainly rue not doing enough to convince the player to stay because he would currently be the most valuable permanent player in the current squad, ahead of Raskin at £8.7m, per Transfermarkt.

Everton think they can land £50m star Rooney loves for bargain fee in 2026

Everton look to be enjoying a new era under David Moyes and could be set to launch an offensive to complete a bargain move once the New Year comes around.

Everton willing to trigger Omar El Hilali's release clause

The summer window saw an influx of arrivals at the Hill Dickinson Stadium that marked the start of a new era for all involved, with Jack Grealish being the pick of the bunch after claiming the Premier League Player of the Month award.

While the England international impressed in a 0-0 draw against former club Aston Villa on Saturday, Everton have already made Espanyol full-back Omar El Hilali one of their main priorities come January and plan to trigger his £26 million release clause once the mid-season market opens.

After trying and failing to land him during the summer, Moyes may now act to bring in some competition on the right-hand side of defence for Jake O’Brien, putting another piece of the jigsaw in place as the Toffees continue to probe on the transfer front.

Solidity is a quality that has underpinned the Scot’s sides over the years, but that also needs to be tempered with offensive quality, something that slowly appears to be emerging due to the Friedkin Group’s investment power.

Despite the window being closed, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a free agent target for Everton, potentially offering a balance of the two qualities in the engine room.

Optimism is growing on the blue half of Merseyside and supporters appear willing to stick with Moyes’ blueprint as his side find their niche in the Premier League, and they may now be ready to sanction a bargain move come 2026.

Everton hopeful of bargain permanent Jack Grealish transfer

According to The Telegraph, Everton are hopeful they can sign Jack Grealish for less than his £50 million transfer option included in his loan agreement at Manchester City.

The outlet claim a bargain deal may be possible due to his clause being a result of accountancy rather than being set in stone, given he has two years on his deal at the Etihad Stadium and his market value at the club was factored in before Pep Guardiola sanctioned his departure.

Everton's "incredible" star is quietly having a bigger impact than Grealish

Everton appear to have turned a corner with David Moyes at the helm this season, with Jack Grealish central to it. He’s not alone, however…

ByAngus Sinclair Sep 12, 2025

Loved by Wayne Rooney due to his character on and off the field, Grealish has registered four assists in his first five matches for the Toffees across all competitions and has endeared himself as a fan favourite due to some dazzling displays.

However, his wages are said to be around £12 million per year and that may be a sticking point in negotiations, meaning a free transfer may be the only way for Everton to afford the Three Lions man if they were to take on his full earnings.

Time will tell on that front, but it is clear to see that Everton and Grealish have hit it off instantly and their relationship is worth continuing at any cost.

Arsenal lost a homegrown Madueke for £0, now he's "one of the world's best"

The mood around Arsenal at the moment is a positive one.

They’ve won three of four games in the Premier League, won their first Champions League game of the season and have only conceded one goal in all five matches.

Moreover, while they are still likely to get called negative and boring by some in the media, the Gunners are playing some nice football.

One of the reasons has been the impressive form of Noni Madueke, who is proving plenty of his doubters wrong so far.

However, while the former Chelsea star is looking like a great signing, Arsenal already had a homegrown version of him years ago, and now that player is one of the best in the world.

Madueke's start to life at Arsenal

It wouldn’t be unfair to say that Madueke’s first few games at Arsenal weren’t overly impressive, as while he offered some threat against Liverpool and did well enough off the left against Leeds, he didn’t blow anyone away.

However, since coming back from a successful international break in which he forced an own goal against Andorra and opened his own account against Serbia, he’s looked near enough unplayable.

For example, while he didn’t register a goal involvement against Forest, the 23-year-old dynamo was a constant threat down the right-hand side, taking 65 touches, completing five dribbles, playing five key passes, creating one big chance and registering an impressive expected assists figure of 0.71.

However, even without the data, it was clear that the Englishman was doing some things right by the eye-test, and the way in which the crowd would react excitedly whenever he was on the ball in a dangerous area.

It was much of the same against Bilbao, as he was once again a constant and direct threat on the right-hand side.

In fact, he should have really racked up an assist, as after driving into the box in the first half, he delivered a brilliant pass to Eberechi Eze’s feet, only for him to take too long to shoot and lose the ball.

Overall, Madueke is really starting to show supporters and pundits alike just why Arteta wanted to sign him.

However, there is another winger on the continent who was once in Arsenal’s academy, someone who could have been their homegrown version of the former Chelsea ace.

Arsenal's former homegrown Madueke

Like any other big club, Arsenal have let their fair share of future stars go as youngsters, from Harry Kane to the recently re-signed Eze.

Where Are They Now

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast’s Where Are They Now series.

However, perhaps one of the very worst instances of this for the Gunners is Michael Olise.

Before spending time in the academies of Chelsea, Manchester City and Reading, the young Frenchman spent a short period in Hale End.

The small saving grace here, then, is the fact that a couple of other ‘big six’ sides passed up on the incredible talent, but given his outrageous performances for Crystal Palace and now Bayern Munich, it must still frustrate the Gunners’ hierarchy that they didn’t keep him on the books.

Since moving to Germany for £50m last summer, the 23-year-old has been on fire.

In 61 appearances, totalling 4382 minutes, the ten-capped game-changer has scored 24 goals and provided 25 assists.

That breaks down to an outrageously impressive average of a goal involvement every 1.24 games, or every 89.42 minutes, and more than justifies Oliver Glasner’s claim that he’s “one of the best talents in the world.”

Now, while he is clearly a more dangerous player than Madueke at the moment, there are some similarities between the pair, notably their ability to carry the ball into dangerous areas.

For example, FBref ranks the Bayern star in the top 4% of attacking midfielders and wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for carries into the final third and the top 8% for overall carries.

In comparison, the Gunners’ new star sits in the top 1% for progressive carries and carries into the penalty area.

Even then, we can be fairly certain that Arsenal would rather have Olise in their team, and had they kept hold of him all those years ago, perhaps they would’ve had their own world-class homegrown Madueke.

Arsenal's "colossal" star is the modern-day Patrick Vieira & it's not Rice

Arsenal have had a testing and trialling start to the new season. They’ve already visited Old Trafford, Anfield and St James’ Park. They’ve also faced Manchester City. Therefore, to come away with 13 points from their opening six matches isn’t bad at all.

They’ve spent most of the campaign watching Liverpool come up with late goals. The Reds have galloped to the top of the Premier League by scoring late goals aplenty. It was in the 83rd minute that they scored the winner against Arsenal while against Burnley and Newcastle, they left it until injury time.

Well, in response, Mikel Arteta’s men have delivered late drama themselves. They needed Gabriel Martinelli’s injury-time equaliser a week ago and against Newcastle on Tyneside, it required an 84th-minute header from Mikel Merino and another header from Gabriel Magalhaes in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

It was dramatic, it was chaotic, but for Arsenal, it was oh so lovely.

Merino and Gabriel were the heroes but a special mention must go Declan Rice’s way for the manner in which he helped power the away side to victory.

Declan Rice's performance vs Newcastle in numbers

Towards the end of last season, Rice firmly established himself as one of the finest midfielders in Europe.

That stunning pair of free-kicks against Real Madrid put him on the map, with Rio Ferdinand remarking that the England star was one of the finest players on the park.

In comparison, the former West Ham star has had a slower start to 2025/26 but he’s beginning to motor now, really proving that in Sunday’s win over Newcastle.

Truth be told, Rice was playing far too deep in the opening 45 minutes of the game but as he began to move further forward in the second period, he came alive.

It was Rice’s perfectly weighted delivery from the left-hand side that led to the Gunners’ equaliser, playing the ball into Merino who glanced home.

The club-record signing’s display was much more than just that assist, however.

Indeed, it was a display in which he showcased why he is “one of the best midfielders in world football” in the words of analyst Raj Chohan.

Throughout his 90 minutes on the field, the 26-year-old did it all, completing 88% of his passes and amassing 104 touches. He also completed three key passes and won seven of his nine duels.

It was an imperious performance from Rice, a player who is perhaps proving to be the club’s most complete midfielder since the days of Patrick Vieira.

He’s not the only one evoking memories of the great Frenchman, though.

Arsenal's "colossal" star is showing shades of Patrick Vieira

Rice has continued to prove that he’s one of the most important players in the squad. He’s also demonstrated why he’s one of the most clutch players at Arteta’s disposal. He simply comes alive in the big moments and in the big games.

Another player who embodies that is Gabriel. The Brazilian has been an enormous part of Arsenal’s rise during Arteta’s reign and nothing summed up his time at the club more than Sunday’s win against Newcastle.

It actually didn’t start particularly well for the central defender, who was certainly at blame for the game’s opening goal.

The ball was swung in toward the Toon’s towering striker, Nick Woltemade. The German gently leaned on Gabriel who, instead of challenging for the ball, threw himself to the floor in a wildly embarrassing moment.

However, Gabriel responded emphatically with a phenomenal second-half performance, in particular, that culminated in the game’s winning goal.

While the centre-back’s late header sparked pandemonium among the Arsenal players and staff, it was certainly no surprise that he popped up when he did.

After all, like Rice, like Vieira 20 odd years ago, Gabriel is one of the most clutch players we’ve seen at the club. He’s scored 18 Premier League goals, at least six more than any other defender since he made his English top-flight debut back in September 2020.

Like Vieira he’s a warrior, a leader, a titan and a gladiator amongst men. In the words of Statman Dave, via X, his display against Newcastle was “colossal”.

Woltemade goal aside, it certainly was sublime. Gabriel won more duels (11), made more clearances (9) and won more aerial battles (7) than any other Arsenal player at St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, no player in red or white made more than the defender’s three tackles and three interceptions.

While it would have been easy for the 27-year-old to get carried away after being bundled over easily for the opener, the way in which he bounced back was characteristic of the way he plays his football.

Like Rice, he’s Vieira-esque, a warrior with the heart of a lion, somebody you can never write off. If Arsenal win the league come May, then Gabriel will have had a huge say in that triumph.

Clattenburg admits Everton decision he got "completely wrong" that left Moyes fuming

There isn’t a job in football that comes under more scrutiny than that of a referee. Whether it’s jeers from the stands, managers from the dugout or players within touching distance, criticism is often everywhere to be seen no matter the reason for certain decisions. And that’s even been the case for some of the best referees to step foot in English football.

"Sir Alex gave me the hairdryer treatment!" – Peter Walton reveals the life of a Premier League referee

Read our exclusive chat with former Premier League referee Peter Walton.

ByBen Goodwin Apr 2, 2025

Mark Clattenburg is considered one of those. The 50-year-old took charge of some of the biggest games that both English and European football has to offer during his 11-year spell in the centre circle, including the Champions League final in 2016.

Since then, he hasn’t been afraid to reveal all about the career of an experienced referee, telling stories about arguments with Jurgen Klopp and even taking aim at current PGMOL head chief Howard Webb.

Clattenburg also isn’t the first ex-Premier League referee to be so open about his career. Graham Scott recently appeared on talkSPORT to speak about the frustrations of VAR and why he felt sorry after ruling out Alexis Mac Allister’s wonder goal a few years ago.

He said: “Off the field you can’t control anything and the noise now is insane. It’s almost unbearable and it becomes an extremely challenging role. Then, layering on top of that being VAR, as I’ve tried to convey in my piece, being a VAR is utterly unenjoyable.”

Now, Clattenburg has explained a regret of his own and one that left Everton boss David Moyes fuming several years ago.

Clattenburg: I got Everton decision "completely wrong"

Speaking on the Daily Mail Sport’s Whistleblowers podcast, Clattenburg revealed he got one Everton decision “completely wrong” in the 2007 Merseyside derby. The referee sent off two Everton players that day, with one being Tony Hibbert and the other being Phil Neville, which sparked fury from Moyes.

Clattenburg also failed to award the Toffees a late penalty when Jamie Carragher hauled Joleon Lescott to the ground, which he has now admitted was the wrong decision as the Red went on to seal victory.

Moyes was left incredibly frustrated after the game and told reporters: “You wonder whether they allow themselves to be influenced by the top four. Didn’t Clattenburg go to Hong Kong with Liverpool for the Asia Cup this summer? Maybe he wants to be their friend.”

PA Media have shared what they know from Newcastle about Sandro Tonali's injury

Midfielder Sandro Tonali was conspicuous by his absence as Newcastle trained on Monday morning ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Jose Mourinho’s Benfica.

The 25-year-old Italy international did not take part in the open section of the session in front of the cameras at the club’s Darsley Park base.

Tonali, a £55million signing from AC Milan during the summer of 2003, was replaced by Jacob Ramsey with 20 minutes of Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at Brighton remaining.

The Italian has become a key member of Eddie Howe’s midfield alongside Brazilians Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton since returning from his 10-month ban for gambling offences in August last year.

Tonali, a Carabao Cup winner with the Magpies in March, played all but a few minutes for his country in their World Cup qualifying victories over Estonia and Israel during the last international break.

Head coach Howe will hope to have him at his disposal on Tuesday evening as Newcastle attempt to add to the three points they collected from a 4-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels earlier this month after losing their opening fixture to Barcelona at St James’ Park.

Man Utd's key advantage in replacing Casemiro with Morten Hjulmand

Manchester United now hold an advantage in the race to sign Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand, with the midfielder being targeted as a replacement for Casemiro.

Casemiro has repaid Ruben Amorim’s faith in him with some fantastic performances this season, most recently picking up a goal and an assist in the 4-2 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion, while also making a number of other important contributions.

The Brazilian was lauded by Amorim after the match, with the 40-year-old suggesting he should be a role model for the other United players, saying: “I think he gives a lot of experience,

“He’s so important for us. Today he run a lot. He had to press so high and then return, and he’s doing that. So, I’m really pleased with him. And the other guys need to look at Casemiro.”

However, the 33-year-old’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains up in the air, given that his contract is set to expire next summer, and the Red Devils are now lining up moves for new midfielders, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson emerging as a target.

A deal for Anderson could be on the expensive side, however, with it being reported Forest could hold out for £120m, and the England international is not the only target on the shortlist…

Man Utd hold advantage in race for Hjulmand

According to a report from Football Insider, Man United hold an advantage in the race for Sporting CP midfielder Hjulmand, given his links with Amorim, with the Portuguese manager signing the Dane from Lecce back in 2023.

The central midfielder has a £70m release clause in his contract, but there is now a feeling he could be available for the cut-price fee of £50m, which will also be welcome news for the Red Devils.

Amorim is known to be a big fan of the 26-year-old, but there may be competition for his signature, with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City also in the race.

With it also being revealed that United don’t plan to trigger the extension clause in Casemiro’s contract, the Sporting star could be brought in as a replacement, and he may be a solid option, having impressed for club and country.

The Denmark international displayed his ball-striking ability with a fantastic goal against England at Euro 2024, and there are signs he could have a positive influence in the Man United dressing room, having been dubbed a “leader” by sporting boss Rui Borges.

It would be a shame to see Casemiro depart, but the 33-year-old is on massive wages, raking in £350k-a-week, so it could make sense to sign a younger midfielder this summer, and Hjulmand, who’s made 12 Champions League appearances, may now be ready to test himself at a top club.

Tottenham willing to pay £70m for Semenyo as Bournemouth name asking price

Tottenham Hotspur are now willing to pay £70m to sign AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, as they believe he would be perfect for Thomas Frank.

It is little wonder Tottenham are looking to bring in a new forward, given that some of their current attacking options have been far from impressive so far this season, with Jamie O’Hara left fuming by Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani after the Chelsea defeat.

Mathys Tel has also found it difficult to adapt to life in the Premier League, with the 20-year-old being dropped to the bench in recent weeks, having now scored just one goal in his opening 10 matches in all competitions.

Spurs’ attacking woes were particularly apparent in the 1-0 defeat against their London rivals on Saturday, failing to craft a single big chance, while also having just three shots in the entire match.

Tottenham willing to make offer for Antoine Semenyo

Having struggled in front of goal, Tottenham are now willing to make their club-record signing in one of the stars of the Premier League this season, with a report from Spain revealing they are prepared to make a bid of around €80m (£70m) for Semenyo.

There is a belief the Bournemouth forward would be ideal for Frank, given that he is fast, powerful and clinical, but there could be competition for the Ghanaian’s signature, as several unnamed European clubs are also keen.

The Cherries value the 25-year-old highly, but they may be willing to cash-in for the right price this winter, with a £80m fee being touted.

The Bournemouth star has shown signs of year-on-year development since first emerging as a regular starter in the Premier League during the 2023/24 season, and he is already over half-way to matching his goal and assist tally from the previous campaign.

Scout Ben Mattinson has also been left impressed by the Ghana international in the past, urging Arsenal to sign him back in February.

Semenyo has earned a move to a top club, with his performances this season indicating he is ready to make the step-up, and it would be a real statement of intent from ENIC if they were able to get a deal done.
