Essex’s plans for their Friends Life t20 campaign have been disrupted by the news that a back problem will prevent Peter Siddle, the Australia fast bowler, from fulfilling his contract as one of their overseas players.Siddle recently flew home from Australia’s tour of West Indies, after playing in the first Test, due to “back stiffness”. He had been due to join up with Essex for the FLt20, which begins in June, but they have now been informed that Siddle will require a month of rest before embarking on a rehabilitation programme that will prevent him from turning out in the competition.”We are very disappointed Peter can’t make it to Essex following his injury,” Paul Grayson, Essex’s head coach, said. “We understand that when we sign any overseas player that there is a risk of an injury or international duty so we now have to look at other options with a Plan B for another overseas bowler.”Essex, who last week secured the services of New Zealand international James Franklin as their second overseas player, will now examine the availability of potential replacements for Siddle.Edited by Alan Gardner

Bruno Henrique e Borja são outros dois jogadores que sentiram os efeitos das últimas partidas – ambos estão com uma lesão de grau 1 na panturrilha e por isso não jogam o Dérbi. Ainda não está definida a utilização da dupla no confronto com o Cruzeiro.

Mayke e Willian são outras possíveis ausências até dos relacionados para o fim de semana. Ambos acusaram desgaste mais elevado e foram preservados no treino desta sexta para fazer atividades de equilíbrio muscular. Guerra, em transição entre a parte física e técnica, e Gustavo Scarpa, que segue tratando após uma pancada no calcanhar do pé direito, foram desfalques no treino.

Apesar da grande atenção aos torneios de mata-mata, o Verdão também está em terceiro lugar no Campeonato Brasileiro depois de 23 rodadas, com 43 pontos. O Internacional, líder, e o São Paulo, segundo colocado, têm 46 cada. 35 mil ingressos foram vendidos antecipadamente para o Dérbi.

انطلق اليوم أول أيام معسكر حكام الدوري المصري الممتاز بأحد فنادق القاهرة، تحت إشراف لجنة الحكام باتحاد الكرة برئاسة البرتغالي فيتور بيريرا .

وحرص بيريرا في أول لقاءاته مع الحكام في حضور أعضاء اللجنة على التأكيد على صعوبة مباريات الدوري المقبلة بسبب المنافسة المشتعلة في جميع المراكز وضرورة تركيز الحكام سواء من الناحية البدنية والذهنية والنفسية في الفترة المقبلة، وأن الجميع داخل لجنة الحكام يعمل كأسرة واحدة من أجل إنجاح المنظومة.

حضر فاعليات المعسكر محمد فاروق نائب رئيس اللجنة، توفيق السيد مسئول مسابقات القسم الأول، أحمد أبو العلا مسئول إداري اللجنة، تونى عثمان مدير العلاقات العامة باللجنة، وأيمن دجيش، مجدى رزق، حمدي القاضي، وجيمس حنا، وفريد سلطان.

وقال توني عثمان، مدير العلاقات العامة بلجنة الحكام، إن محمد فاروق، نائب رئيس اللجنة، أكد أن لجنة الحكام تعمل في إطار الفريق الواحد الذي يسوده التعاون، مشيرًا إلى أن اللجنة تساند البرتغالي فيتور بيريرا في مهمته من أجل تطوير منظومة التحكيم المصري.

وأضاف عثمان، أن لجنة الحكام، بعد الاتفاق مع محمد فاروق نائب رئيس اللجنة وأعضاء اللجنة، استقرت على إقامة المعسكر على 3 مراحل تضم كل مرحلة 50 حكما من حكام الدوري الممتاز.

وأوضح مدير العلاقات العامة بلجنة الحكام، أن بيريرا يسعى لاستغلال فترة التوقف المقبلة للوقوف على قدرات وإمكانيات الحكام المصريين، بعدما اطلع على بعض المباريات الأخيرة في الدورى وأبدى رضاه عن مستوى الحكام بشكل عام.

وكان الزمالك قد ودع منافسات دوري أبطال إفريقيا، بعد الخسارة من شباب بلوزداد بهدفين دون رد بالجولة الخامسة خلال المباراة التي أقيمت أمس الجمعة.

Ao contrário de anos anteriores, quando havia um rodízio entre os capitães do time, o treinador escolheu um único nome para usar a braçadeira: o goleiro Cássio. A atitude passa pelo gosto de Jair por ter uma liderança fixa e pelo modo como ele tem visto o goleiro exercer essa função no dia a dia.

Aos 31 anos e consolidado como um dos jogadores mais vitoriosos da história do Corinthians, Cássio tem sido o símbolo do estilo de representar o grupo pretendido pelo técnico Jair Ventura e por isso recebe elogios.

-Tenho gostado do tipo da liderança do Cássio, venho gostando muito do perfil dele e dessa liderança, do que ele representa pelo Corinthians – afirmou o treinador.

Jair Ventura se esforça para dizer que a capitania de Cássio pode não ser definitiva, visto que há outros líderes importantes no elenco, como o lateral Fagner, o zagueiro Henrique e o volante Ralf, mas admite que sua preferência é por dar uma sequência. Assim, o goleiro será novamente o capitão no duelo deste domingo contra o Internacional na Arena.

-Ela está fixa hoje, mas não está determinado que vai ser o Cássio até o final do ano. Mas eu gosto da sequência assim, pelo tempo em que estamos aqui, já dá para fazer essa sequência – declarou Jair.

O rodízio de capitães foi implantado no Corinthians por Tite em 2015. Até a Copa do Mundo deste ano, o técnico tinha a mesma filosofia para a Seleção Brasileira, mas efetivou Neymar nos últimos amistosos. A ideia dele foi seguida à risca por Fábio Carille, que revezou constantemente entre Cássio, Fagner, Balbuena e outros no período em que conquistou três títulos à frente do Timão.

Mesmo nesse rodízio, Cássio ficou marcado. Foi ele o escolhido para levantar as três taças conquistadas na era Carille: Paulistão e Brasileiro ano passado e Paulistão deste ano. O goleiro chegou ao clube em 2012 praticamente desconhecido e conquistou os principais títulos. Foi fundamental na conquista da Libertadores e do Mundial daquele ano, e depois ainda venceu dois Brasileiros, uma Recopa Sul-Americana, e dois Campeonatos Paulista.

South Africa depart for England determined to become the No. 1 Test side in the world

There’s a particular type of excitement which accompanies a departure. It may be hope for something better on the other side, curiosity of the unknown or anticipation to try something new. In the case of the South African team, the overriding feeling when they left Johannesburg on Monday was determination to complete a mission they have been building up to for months.Victory over England in the Test series will see South Africa ranked the No.1 Test side. It’s a position that has been within reach but out of their grasp, for almost as long as the rankings have been around. Briefly, South Africa touched the top, for four months in 2009 after their first successful tour to England since readmission. Graeme Smith hopes that this time they can repeat history and make it count for longer.”I don’t think we need much more motivation to beat England,” Smith said, at the team’s departure press conference. “We’ve come close to the top of the rankings for a period of time. We’re hoping this will be the year that we can take ourselves to the next level.”Some will argue that no team deserves it more than South Africa. They have proved themselves in all conditions, having not lost away from home since 2006 in Sri Lanka. At home, they overturned a three summer drought by beating Sri Lanka in January. They have the world’s top bowler, Dale Steyn, in their attack and even though they do not own the top-ranked batsman and allrounder (Jacques Kallis recently lost that spot to Shakib Al Hasan), they’ve regularly had players in the top 10.South Africa have been in this position before. They have left for World Cups with massive public pressure and a favourites tag only to return empty handed. Despite winning important Test series in places where few have left with anything besides bruised egos, like Australia, they have not been able to top the standings for any sustained amount of time. Now, they want it to be different.”We want to become the best cricket team in the world,” Gary Kirsten said, but quickly qualified that he kept that as nothing more than an end goal and was something that occupied his day-to-day planning. “What we need to do every day leading up to those performances is what’s important. We make sure we prepare as best we can to get our best chance of success.”To get ready for this tour, the squad will spend five days in Switzerland with adventurer Mike Horn. Instead of extra net sessions for players who have not been involved in the longest format of the game since March, Kirsten has decided to concentrate on human dynamics. The camp will include activities cricketers are unfamiliar with, such as cycling in the mountains, in the hope it will promote a culture of community.”We want to make sure that we are connected as a unit,” Kirsten explained. “On this tour, it may well boil down to crucial moments in the Test series. And we want to make sure we are prepared for that.”The mental focus has always been an area of concern for South Africa and under Kirsten the focus on togetherness seems to be what will be used to help overcome the usual lapses. Smith even alluded to it when he discussed the less talked about aspect of the series, the batting. “It’s more exciting to talk about guys who can bowl at 150 kph, than about stodgy opening batters,” he said. “But it is a crucial part; putting runs on the board. It’s all about partnerships. The top six need to be really tight and perform well for each other.”Smith expects that England’s strength as a unit will also shine through and is preparing for a different sort of psychological pressure to what South Africa are used to. “They’ve proven over time that they are a methodical, well-drilled team,” Smith said. “They’ll be battle hardened. They play the game hard and no-one wants to give an inch.”Pressure will be applied from all sides, with Smith saying he can already feel the “buzz” from the South African public, who have waited many years to see their cricket side dominate. “You can feel how much that means to the fans,” he said. “We go there with the priority to perform well.”South Africa’s sports minister, Fikile Mbalula, also expected big things from the side. He was there to bid them farewell and issue some instructions. “A visit to England is the absolute highlight of any cricketer’s career. As South Africans, we expect them to maintain their proud record there,” Mbalula said. “The Zimbabwe shame in the tri-series should be forgotten as we place ourselves to break hearts in the Queen’s land.”

The Trinidad & Tobago sports minister has said that allrounders Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, and spinner Sunil Narine, will play for T&T in the Champions League T20 this October instead of their respective IPL teams, in contrast to previous seasons. However, their team affiliation at the tournament is likely to be debated further before being confirmed, with the franchises expected to fight for the three players.Pollard was part of Mumbai Indians’ winning squad in 2011, while Bravo played for Chennai Super Kings. Both franchises have qualified for the CLT20 again this year. Narine played for T&T last year, but has also made it through with Kolkata Knight Riders in his maiden IPL season, in which he was named player of the tournament.According to , Anil Roberts, the minister of sport, said an agreement had been reached with the three players to turn out for their national team and not their IPL franchise. CLT20 rules allow players to pick the team they wish to play for and in the past players had chosen their IPL franchises, which then compensated the players’ home teams.However, the Knight Riders team director, Joy Bhattacharjya said on Twitter that the franchise’s chief executive, Venky Mysore, had indicated Narine would play for his IPL franchise.Roberts said the players were close to signing a Memorandum of Understanding and following that the details of the individual contracts would be worked out. “All three players have said they want to play for Trinidad & Tobago. The government of Trinidad & Tobago have said they will match their fees, so that they will not lose anything.”We want the best team. Some of the Indian teams, the owners are obviously a bit upset because they would love to have Sunil Narine, Pollard and Bravo but I told them quite upfront that we are being professional, that we are not holding anything in secret. We are not going to wait until the last minute and then steal the players from under them.”Roberts also said he had spoken to the franchises to explain the government’s position. “I also explained to them, because some of them are quite upset … I said, ‘please for a moment, just picture Mahendra Singh Dhoni or Sachin Tendulkar or [Suresh] Raina deciding or contemplating to play for a club ahead of India. I don’t think that would even be a choice. I don’t think they would even be able to set foot in their land of their birth if ever they even consider disappointing their countrymen and their country by playing for club for money’.”So while they may be upset, I tell them I am very sorry they are upset, but the [T&T] population wants our best players, the government wants our best players. The players want to play for Trinidad & Tobago and they will play for Trinidad & Tobago.”T&T topped their qualifying group in part thanks to the performances of Narine and fellow spinner Samuel Badree, but narrowly failed to qualify for the semi-finals. T&T will play the qualifying tournament again this year.
