An all-round bowling effort from Hyderabad ensured Pakistan Television were bundled out for 125 on the opening day at the Niaz Stadium. On a day when bowlers dominated from start to finish, Hyderabad did not fare much better against PTV’s seamers, finishing the day at 101 for 5. PTV opener Imran Ali’s 37 was the highest score from either side, and his 42-run opening stand with Raheel Majeed offered little indication of what was to follow. Legspinners Sharjeel Khan and Zahid Mahmood picked up three wickets each for Hyderabad before seamers Saad Altaf and Mohammad Ali did the damage when PTV bowled. The events at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore were in complete contrast to those at the Niaz Stadium as Khan Research Laboratories galloped to a dominant 301 for 2 against Lahore Shalimar. Opener Ali Naqvi was the only batsman to fail after Shalimar chose to field. Saaed Anwar jnr struck 12 fours in his 67 to lay the foundation before Bazid Khan and Mohammad Wasim capitalised. Wasim, who has played for Pakistan at the highest level, brought up his 25th first-class ton by stumps, while Bazid remained six short of the landmark following the unbroken 178-run stand.Opener Khalid Latif’s 64 was the only resistance offered by Karachi Whites as State Bank of Pakistan bowled them out for 187 at the National Bank of Pakistan Sports Complex. Seamer Bilawal Bhatti who picked up four wickets was the wrecker-in-chief for NBP after they chose to field. Rizwan Haider chipped in with three wickets as the hosts struggled to put together partnerships. Wajihuddin’s (32) third-wicket stand of 53 with Latif guided them to 107 for 2 before the middle order misfired. SBP ensured they did not lose any wickets in the two overs they got to face, and hold all the aces going into the second day.Three half-centuries from middle-order batsmen and one from a tail-ender helped Lahore Ravi survive Quetta seamer Gohar Faiz’s maiden five-wicket haul and finish at 302 for 9 after an action packed day at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground. Faiz struck three early blows to leave Ravi stuttering at 37 for 3 before Fahad-ul-Haq and Sheraz Butt began the resistance. Fahad made 54 off 92 balls and added 111 with Sheraz to repair the innings before Quetta reclaimed the upper hand by claiming five wickets for 51 runs. Having batted through the collapse, Ashraf Ali ensured he did not fall by the wayside, and found a willing partner in No. 10 Tanzeel Altaf. The pair added 87 crucial runs to push Ravi towards 300 before Altaf fell for 51. Ashraf shepherded the last man Imran Haider to ensure his side was not bowled out on the first day, and was unbeaten on 72 at stumps.Peshawar failed to build on the base laid by their openers and stumbled from 121 for 2 to 264 for 8 against Abbottabad at the Gohati Cricket Stadium in Swabi. Mohammad Fayyaz and Gauhar Ali stroked their way to a 72-run opening stand before things began to go awry for Peshawar. Fayyaz made 58 with 11 fours and Gauhar contributed 41 before Wajid Ali broke through. Ahmed Jamal and Mohammad Naeem got into the act as well as Peshawar’s batsmen began to throw away starts. Jamal picked up four wickets before an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 95 between Nauman Habib and Riaz Afridi gave Peshawar some late cheer.

Jakati leads Goa to huge win

Round-up of the fourth day of the third round of the Ranji Trophy Plate League

ESPNcricinfo staff20-Nov-2010Group ALeft-arm spinner Shadab Jakati was the wrecker-in-chief as Goa beat Jharkhand by an innings and 127 runs in Porvorim. Jakati made the initial breakthrough, bowling Manish Vardhan for 23 after the openers had added 46. Amit Yadav chipped in with two of the next three wickets, while India batsman Saurabh Tiwary failed for the second time in the match, falling to Robin D’Souza for 12. Jakati then sliced through the middle and lower order to finish with 6 for 55, which along with his 4 for 77 from the first innings, gave him his second career ten-wicket haul. Goa now have 8 points, one behind joint-group leaders Rajasthan, Hyderabad and Madhya Pradesh.Rajasthan and Madhya Pradhesh played out a high-scoring draw at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The highlight of MP’s innings of 419 for 5 was a 201-run partnership between Devendra Bundela and Abbas Ali for the fourth wicket. Bundela ended the day unbeaten on 106, while Ali was bowled by Madhur Khatri for 115. Opener Jalaj Saxena narrowly missed out on giving the visitors a third centurion, falling to Deepak Chahar for a well made 96 that included 19 fours. Chahar finished with 1 for 136 from 31 overs. No points were awarded in the game as neither side were able to establish a first-innings lead (MP were not bowled out). The result means Hyderabad joins them at the top of the table having beaten Tripura yesterday.Group BOpener Amit Deshpande, who batted for six hours to make 68, and no. 8 Ravi Jangid, who made an unbeaten 28 from 309 balls, giving him a strike rate of 17.07, enabled Vidarbha to cling on for the unlikeliest of draws against Kerala in Malappuram. When the visitors had slumped to 49 for 6, with four of the top seven batsmen failing to score, a crushing defeat seemed the only possible outcome. Deshpande and Jangid, however, defied the bowlers for the next 51.2 overs, adding 83 runs in the process. By the time Sony Cheruvathur trapped Deshpande leg before, Vidarbha only needed to survive a further seven overs. They lost Azhar Sheikh, caught behind off Prasanth Parameswaran in the next over to set the nerves jangling again, but Shrikant Wagh stuck it out alongside Jangid to foil Kerala’s bid to pick up their first win of the season.Services picked up their first win of the season, thumping Jammu & Kashmir by an innings and 127 runs at the Harbax Singh Stadium in Delhi. Resuming on their overnight score of 57 for 2, the visitors soon lost Asif Jeelani, leg before to Suraj Yadav, for 18, before a triple-strike left them reeling at 77 for 6. First, Nishan Singh trapped Dhruv Mahajan (1) in front in the 36th over. In the next over, Majid Dhar was run out without scoring by Soomik Chatarjee, and then Nishan returned to bowl Samiullah Beigh for a duck. No. 10 Raman Dutta threw his bat around to make 49 from 38, with seven fours, and added 58 with Hardeep Singh to prolong the innings. Hardeep was eventually run out by Tahir Khan for 40, and Arnav Kush wrapped up the game when he had Dutta caught one short of his half-century. Services moved up to third in the points table, trailing Maharashtra and Kerala.Satyakumar Verma’s highest first-class score helped Andhra Pradesh pick up three points for taking a first-innings lead over Maharashtra in Vishakapatnam. Verma batted for seven hours to make 117, adding 235 with opener Hemal Watekar, who was unlucky to miss out on a hundred of his own, falling to Samad Fallah two runs short of the landmark after facing 330 balls and batting for seven hours and 39 minutes. Shrikant Mundhe took 5 for 74 for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to prevent AP from compiling 380 for 7, 12 more than Maharashtra managed in their first innings.

Spurs: Romano drops Traore update

Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the future of reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Adama Traore.

What’s the talk?

In a recent post on Twitter, the Italian journalist and transfer insider revealed that Barcelona have no intention of activating their €30m (£25m) option to purchase the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger, meaning the 26-year-old is set to return to Molineux at the end of the current campaign – before potentially being moved on once again by Bruno Lage this summer.

In a further report, The Express claim that this development will come as a boost to Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici, as Spurs attempted to sign the Spain international in the January transfer window, and now appear to have a free run at the forward in the summer market – with it being said a move by Tottenham looks likely ahead of 2022/23.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news!”]

In his tweet, Romano said: “Barcelona have no intention to pay €30m buy option for Adama Traore. The only way to keep him has always been a swap deal, with no money included in the negotiation with Wolves. As of today, there are chances for Adama to come back at Wolves and then leave again.”

Conte will be buzzing

While it is true that Traore’s return to Barcelona has not exactly gone as the winger would have hoped – having started just three of his nine LaLiga appearances for Xavi’s side – the news that Tottenham could have a second chance of landing the Spaniard this summer is sure to have left Conte buzzing.

Indeed, it was widely reported that the Italian had hoped to convert the forward into a right wing-back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it is easy to see why the Spurs boss believed the £25.2m-rated talent would be suitable for this role.

According to FBref statistics, the £46k-per-week attacker ranks in the top 1% of wingers in Europe’s big five leagues for dribbles completed per 90 minutes, as well as the top 4% for progressive carries, the top 12% for touches in the opposition penalty area, the top 23% for shot-creating actions and the top 29% for aerial duels won over the last 365 days.

As such, it is clear that, if deployed on the right of a back five, Traore’s ability to progress the ball from defence to attack would be a huge weapon for Tottenham when counter-attacking – something that is undoubtedly one of the main reasons for Conte’s interest in the player Jurgen Klopp dubbed “unplayable” this summer.

And, following Romano’s latest update on the winger’s future, it would appear as if Conte and Paratici now have a second chance to land the eight-time capped international, something that is sure to please the Italian.

Stress fracture leaves Harris needing surgery

Ryan Harris is expected to undergo surgery for a stress fracture on his left ankle after suffering an injury that threatens to curtail his promising Test career

Ryan Harris is expected to undergo surgery for a stress fracture on his left ankle after suffering an injury that threatens to curtail his promising Test career. Harris, who also has a chronic knee problem, broke down in his run-up seven overs into the third day at the MCG and scans revealed a crack in the 31-year-old’s foot.He has become a hugely valuable member of the side during his five Tests, but now faces a lengthy lay-off that should also rule him out of Australia’s World Cup plans. “Ryan is likely to require surgery and will consult a specialist in the next 24 hours,” Cricket Australia’s Dr Trefor James said. A decision on whether he will bat in the second innings will depend on how close Australia are to saving the game.Harris was running in to bowl when the bone broke and he left the field for treatment after taking off his shoe to examine the damage. He had figures of 0 for 91 off 28.4 overs and Michael Clarke was called to finish the over.Harris’ body has been his major weakness over the past couple of years and a five-Test series has proved too much. After storming to nine wickets in the Perth victory last week he said he would not have an operation to repair his knee because the recovery would take 18 months and effectively end his career. The ankle problem will take months to heal and it is a particularly troubling issue for fast bowlers, who land all their weight on the left foot during their delivery stride. Brett Lee suffered a similar problem here in 2008 and didn’t play Tests again. Harris has taken 20 wickets in his five games, including a career-best 6 for 47 at the WACA.

Broad confident of being ready for World Cup

Stuart Broad is confident of being ready for the World Cup.and believes his enforced lay-off due to injury will help keep him fresh over the next year

Stuart Broad has taken the glass-half-full view of the injury lay-off that forced him to miss the last three Ashes Test and current one-day series, believing he will benefit from the rest over the next year. Broad suffered an abdominal strain on the fourth day in Adelaide and is still working his way back towards full fitness, but is confident of being ready for the start of the World Cup.He returned to the squad mid-way through this one-day series to continue his recovery away from the British winter, aware that there is a rapid turnaround to the World Cup with England’s first game against Netherlands on February 22. Broad is eager to get back into action, but even with the current injury crisis in the squad, he won’t be getting a game in Australia.”I don’t think the doctors will even let Straussy ask that question,” he said. “I’m keen to play but I don’t think it will happen. I’ve been unfortunate to miss the last seven weeks but we have got a huge amount of cricket coming up so this little break might just help me fire on all cylinders for the next year or so.”I’m probably a little bit ahead of schedule. I probably bowled at 50-60 percent yesterday and pulled up fine this morning. Hopefully by the end of the Australia tour I’ll have come off near a full run-up, my aim is to try and play the first warm-up game of the World Cup so I’m hopeful of that.”Broad is crucial to England’s World Cup chances because, even though the fringe bowlers have performed well in Australia, his aggressive, in-your-face style, will be important on flat pitches. He is also one of the team’s key Powerplay and death bowlers, while also featuring heavily in the middle overs when breakthroughs are needed.”I’m desperate to get back playing, it’s felt like a long seven and a half weeks,” he said. “I love playing cricket, that’s what I do, so it’s hard when you injured and don’t get to try and improve yourself. I’m certainly looking forward to getting back playing and there’s a lot of cricket coming up.”He was the only injury England suffered during their successful Ashes campaign, but since then bowlers have dropped like flies with the workload catching up with them. Tim Bresnan (calf) and Graeme Swann (back) have flown home to try and recover in time for the World Cup while Ajmal Shahzad limped off during the Brisbane ODI with a hamstring strain and Chris Tremlett, a possible replacement for the squad if needed, has a side strain.”I think the injuries are pretty minor so I don’t think it will affect any balance to the World Cup squad or anything like that,” he said, “but it’s a little frustrating in this series to have lost as many players as we have. It’s been hard to find the right balance that we’ll go into the World Cup with. But you can’t do anything about injuries and after a lot of cricket on this tour I think we’ve done well with the amount of injuries we’ve had.”Despite having to sit out the final three Ashes Tests and miss the moments of glory at Melbourne and Sydney there is no resentment from Broad who, apart from the bitter weather in the UK, enjoyed every moment of the team’s success on television.”It wasn’t difficult, it was brilliant to see. I’m an England fan at the end of the day. It was great to see the lads perform so well. It was difficult because it was freezing cold with snow everywhere. Obviously I was disappointed to miss out on those celebrations and achievements, but I still feel part of the team. It was fantastic to see and enjoyable to watch.”Although the tour is finishing on a sour note with the one-day series loss, Broad doesn’t think it should take the gloss off what has been achieved. “I don’t think England players deserve to have any negative memories about the tour so it’s important we finish this series strongly and look back with great fondness on the last three months.”
