Narsingh Deonarine scored 143 to lead Guyana’s response to T&T’s 530 but his side fell short by 128 runs. Deonarine added 67 for the fifth wicket with Royston Crandon but a steady fall of wickets – sparked by legspinner Imran Khan – pegged them back. Deonarine and Davendra Bishoo resisted with a ninth-wicket stand of 108 but overhauling T&T’s score was always a stiff task. Deonarine was the last man out and his 286-ball knock included nine fours and four sixes. Khan finished with figures of 4 for 92 while the offspinner Amit Jaggernauth took 3 for 97.

وأضاف: “الميركاتو لم ينته بعد، سينتهي في 31 أغسطس ولذلك ما زال هناك وقتًا طويلًا وربما تكون هناك صفقة أخرى جديدة”.

وعن صفقة برناردو سيلفا المحتملة: “كل ما نركز عليه في الوقت الحالي هو تسجيل اللاعبين، ثم سنرى طلبات المدرب إذا كان في حاجة إلى لاعبين جدد”.

وأتم: “لقد قمنا ببيع 25% من حقوق البث التلفزيوني لنادي برشلونة، بيع 100 مليون يورو من حقوق استخدام استوديوهات برشلونة وهذه هي الرافعة الثالثة، لقد فعلنا كل شيء من أجل تسجيل اللاعبين، هناك من يتحدث عن قدرتنا وما يمكننا فعله أو لا (إشارة إلى ريال مدريد)، نحن نعمل بجد وندعهم يتحدثون وسنمضي قدمًا”.

A little more than a year ago, Thilan Samaraweera was struggling to find a way back into the Sri Lankan Test side. He is now in his best-ever form, with 717 runs in four Tests, and has become a key member of Sri Lanka’s middle order.He attributes the dramatic upswing in fortunes to a few technical adjustments he has made. “I’ve narrowed the stance and with a slightly higher (back) lift, I’m feeling more comfortable,” he said.Samaraweera’s Test average has soared above 50, but he is yet to return to the limited-overs side, having played his last ODI in 2005. “I’m ready for the challenge of one-day cricket but my job is to score runs and it’s the selectors’ decision to pick me.”His 214 on the second day in Lahore helped his side pile up 606, and he also became only the second Sri Lankan, after Kumar Sangakkara, to make double-centuries in successive Tests. “I am really pleased to get to that exclusive club. I have worked really hard over the last two years and it certainly has helped [that] the wicket is also quite good.”The inexperienced Pakistan bowling is without Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, but Samaraweera felt it was still a dangerous unit. “The Pakistani attack doesn’t have the big names, but this attack is good. Umar Gul, in particular, is a fine bowler.”It was Gul’s mastery of reverse-swing that kept the Sri Lankans from reaching an even larger total. The rest of the Pakistan attack was off-colour, but Gul picked up a career-best six-wicket haul. “[It was] a good comeback after Sri Lanka were only four down with some 500-odd runs on the board,” he said.Despite the assured start from Pakistan’s openers, the home side are trailing by nearly 500 runs. Gul, though, insisted Pakistan were still looking for a victory. “We will try to score as quickly as possible on Tuesday and try to win the Test because it’s the last match of the series,” he said. “It was unfortunate that Salman Butt got run out at the very end of the day.”

Celtic reporter Kieran Devlin has addressed the reason behind Fergal Harkin’s collapsed move to Parkhead over the summer.

The Lowdown: Harkin links

Harkin, a ‘massive’ Hoops fan, appeared to be closing in on a move to Glasgow towards the end of May.

The Irishman rejected the chance to move to Belgium in favour of a move to Scotland, however, a deal ended up falling through.

It now appears as if Dominic McKay, who left the club last month after just 72 days as CEO, played a role in a director of football deal collapsing.

The Latest: Devlin’s claim

Devlin shared an in-depth feature on The Athletic focusing on former Hoops scout John Park on Thursday.

Within his report, Devlin, who touched on Harkin to Celtic following McKay’s exit, looked at that the pros and cons of a director of football model alongside a traditional head of recruitment set-up.

He claimed that Celtic were on the cusp of appointing Harkin as sporting director before a disagreement between McKay and the Hoops hierarchy led to a deal collapsing.

The Verdict: Back to square one…

The Hoops at one point earlier this year had McKay in as CEO and were linked with moves for Harkin as DoF and Eddie Howe as manager.

They now have none of three names mentioned at Parkhead, with Michael Nicholson the club’s interim CEO alongside manager Ange Postecoglou.

It would’ve been interesting to have seen which direction the club went if they secured Harkin’s services, but now they are back to square one without a permanent CEO or DoF in place.

Flocking to Twitter, many Manchester City supporters have gone wild as a fresh claim emerges on the future of striking target Erling Braut Haaland.

The Sky Blues have been eyeing Haaland throughout 2021 with reports of their interest resurfacing in recent weeks, coming after they couldn’t quite manage to land a natural centre-forward in the summer.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain had his eye on Harry Kane for the majority of the window, and after that move failed to materialise, they briefly contemplated a move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alas, manager Pep Guardiola didn’t get his striker wish and he could now have to wait another year until he signs the perfect heir to club legend Sergio Aguero at Eastlands.

In a silver lining for the Spaniard, it appears there has been a major development in the pursuit of Haaland.

Celtic are interested in a deal to bring Fernando Henrique to Parkhead in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Brazilian media outlet Globo (via Everything Celtic), who claim that Ange Postecoglou’s side have made contact with the 20-year-old’s representatives after the Celtic scouting department identified the Gremio midfielder as a target for the winter window.

In Everything Celtic’s tweet, the account state: “Celtic have made contact with the representatives of Gremio defensive midfielder Fernando Henrique ahead of a potential move this January.”

The report goes on to state that the Brazilian side value the youngster at a fee of around R$25m (£3.2m), while there is also reported to be interest in Henrique from The City Group and Al Ain.

Fans will be buzzing

While Henrique has not featured all that much for Gremio so far this season, the defensive-minded midfielder has nevertheless impressed when given the opportunity by Vagner Mancini.

Indeed, over his four Brazilian Serie A appearances this term, the £810k-rated man has made an average of 2.3 interceptions, 2.8 tackles, 0.5 clearances and won 5.8 duels per game.

These returns have seen the 20-year-old average a SofaScore match rating of 6.92, ranking him as Gremio’s 12th-best performer in the Brazilian top flight.

And, while the style of football in South America is undoubtedly rather different to that of the Scottish Premiership, when comparing Henrique’s metrics to Celtic’s current squad, the youngster stacks up rather well.

Indeed, his average of 2.3 interceptions per game would rank him as Celtic’s best performer in this particular field, while his returns of 2.8 tackles would rank him as the Bhoys’ second-most efficient tackler.

As such, should an opportunity to sign the 20-year-old for a figure around the quoted £3.2m arise, it would seem a highly advisable move to do so, as not only would the midfielder appear to possess the ability to improve Postecoglou’s options in the middle of the park, Henrique’s tough-tackling and hard-working nature are very player much traits that will get the Parkhead faithful buzzing.
