Faz tanto mal quanto a violência causada pelas organizadas, a ação do senhor Rodrigo Terra.

Bears and Phoenix top on points after exciting round of NUL matches

Warwickshire Bears remain top of the NUL after Shaun Pollock’s all-round excellence secured an 85-run victory over Notts Outlaws

George Dobell19-May-2002Warwickshire Bears remain top of the NUL after Shaun Pollock’s all-round excellence secured an 85-run victory over Notts Outlaws. The South African followed his belligerent innings of 70 with 3-12 as his side made it two NUL wins in two this season. It was a one-sided encounter at New Road as Worcestershire Royals prospered against a weakened Somerset Sabres side. The hosts soon recovered from losing Solanki to the first ball of the day as Anurag Singh and Ben Smith compiled half-centuries and David Leatherdale and Steve Rhodes chipped in with valuable cameos. Kabir Ali then ran through the visitors with 4-15 including the key wickets of Bowler and Cox as the Sabres were humbled by 127 runs.In Cardiff Glamorgan Dragons did well to defend a meagre total of 161-8 against Durham. Welsh supporters will thank Mike Powell for his patient 47 not out and a partnership with Mark Wallace (34) of 58 for giving their bowlers something to defend. And Michael Kasprowicz responded brilliantly by cutting down the Dynamos top order with 4-28 as his side secured a 20-run victory.Darren Lehmann steadied his side with another match-winning performance at Canterbury. His unbeaten 69 (98 balls with four boundaries) saw his side to a five-wicket win. Earlier the Spitfires had fought back from a dire start thanks mainly to a fine half-century from Matt Walker. And with Yorkshire Phoenix wobbling at 64-4 they were indebted to their captain for his knock that leaves them equal on points – but just behind on run-rate – at the top of the table. In the second division a wonderful all-round game from Jon Lewis saw his Gloucestershire Gladiators side clinch a one-wicket victory over Surrey Lions at Bristol. The day’s most exciting game saw Lewis (27 including a six) add 18 for the final wicket with Mike Smith to thwart an excellent effort by Surrey Lions’ opening bowlers Martin Bicknell and Ed Giddins. Earlier Lewis had taken 4-22 including the key wicket of Mark Ramprakash as the Lions had struggled to 163-9 in their 45 overs. It was a tough result on Giddins in particular, who bowled with real skill and batted with uncharacteristic resilience in adding 32 in a last-wicket partnership with Jon Batty (28 not out) that so nearly won his side the game.Elsewhere Ashley Cowan and Andy Clarke each snared a three-wicket haul to limit Derbyshire Scorpions to 155 all out. Essex Eagles knocked off the runs without undue difficulty to secure a seven-wicket vistory.Meanwhile Northants Steelbacks cantered to victory against Middlesex Crusaders. Darren Cousins was the start for the hosts with 4-13 including a hostile opening spell that saw the visitors slip to 10-3; a postion from which they never really recovered. Although the Steelbacks endured a sticky start to their reply, David Sales (66 off 79 balls) and Mike Hussey (56 off 83 balls) then added 109 for the third wicket to take their side within sight of victory.Stuart Law built on the good work of Lancashire Lightning team-mates Peter Martin and John Wood with an innings of 71 with five fours and two sixes. Earlier Martin (2-22) and Wood (3-21) had bowled out Sussex Sharks for just 160. But a good effort from the Sharks’ seamers saw Lightning endure some nervous moments before the vastly experienced Law saw them home.

West Ham update emerges on Danny Ings

Dropping a West Ham United transfer update, The Athletic have shared news on Southampton striker Danny Ings after he rejected the offer of a new deal at St Mary’s Stadium.

The Lowdown: West Ham eyeing new forwards…

As previously claimed by Claret & Hugh, West Ham have earmarked the signing of a new striker as one of David Moyes’ top priorities this summer.

Star forward Michail Antonio, while impressing for the east Londoners over 2020/2021, struggled with injury issues throughout the campaign.

The Europa League group stages await for West Ham next season and they will have to strengthen in the summer market.

The Latest: The Athletic drop Ings update…

Now, The Athletic have dropped an update on Ings with West Ham having expressed interest in the forward, who has rejected a new deal at Southampton.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-3/” title=”West Ham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Alongside the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa, it is said that West Ham have been eyeing the striker, who scored 12 goals and assisted four others in 26 Premier League starts last season (WhoScored).

However, despite interest from the Hammers, it is claimed that Ings has his ‘heart set’ on the ‘top table’.

The 28-year-old is said to be holding out for a move to a top-four side with his current contract set to expire in 2022.

The Verdict: Big blow…

Ings would undoubtedly be a top signing for West Ham, but judging by this report, his acquisition appears unlikely.

This comes as an arguable blow for the Hammers given his obvious quality and proven goalscoring record in the English top flight.

Over 2019/2020, the forward bagged even more Premier League goals under Ralph Hasenhuttl, netting 22 goals and assisting two others (WhoScored).

His quality is best summed up by podcaster Lee McQueen, who told The Last Word on Spurs podcast that Ings is ‘absolutely phenomenal’.

As the transfer window heats up, West Ham need to start finalising moves for new striking additions.

Sri Lanka A record emphatic win at Dambulla

Sri Lanka A have levelled the ODI series against India A 1-1 after completing a comprehensive 69-run victory at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Tuesday

Staff Reporter04-Jun-2002Sri Lanka A have levelled the ODI series against India A 1-1 after completing a comprehensive 69-run victory at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Tuesday. The chief architects of the Sri Lanka A victory were the left-handed batsmen Avishka Gunawardene (111) and Naveed Nawaz (120).After the first two matches of the five-match series had been washed out, India A had won the third match yesterday at the same venue by two wickets. Today’s performance by the home team sets up an interesting do-or-die final clash on Thursday.Earlier in the day, Hrishikesh Kanitkar won the toss for India A and sent the home team in to bat first. On a track full of runs, Sri Lanka A lost Test discard Romesh Kaluwitharana (8), caught behind by Parthiv Patel off a nippy Lakshmipathy Balaji. What followed was a deluge of runs; a partnership of 233 runs off just 38.1 overs between Gunawardene and Nawaz. Gunwardene struck ten boundaries and a six in his blistering knock of 111, facing just 121 balls. Gunawardene was cleaned up by Jai P Yadav with the Sri Lanka A total on 251.Five runs later, Nawaz was tragically run out after making a whirlwind knock of 120 (125 balls), which included 14 fours and a six. There were useful contributions late in the order from Chamara Silva (29 off 15 balls) and Jehan Mubarak (25* off 20 balls). Sri Lanka A finished with 321/4 in their 50 overs. Jai P Yadav picked up a couple of wickets, but was too expensive – going for 72 runs off nine overs.India A looked to be cruising towards victory, scoring at around six runs an over. Akash Chopra and young Parthiv Patel added 131 runs for the first wicket in just 22.2 overs. But then they lost four quick wickets in the space of seven overs to slump to 155/4. Kaushal Lokuarachchi struck a double blow, removing Patel (71 off 66 balls) and Gautam Gambhir (3) in consecutive overs. Kanitkar (1) and Chopra (70 off 85 balls) too fell in quick succession, leaving the task of rebuilding the innings to Rohan Gavaskar and Jai P Yadav.Chasing such a huge score, and with crucial wickets down, India A were never in a position to launch an assault. Yadav made 22 off 15 balls and the rest of the tail just wilted away. Gavaskar batted on to compile a half century (53* off 65 balls), as India A were bowled out for 252 runs. Tillakaratne Dilshan, bowling off-breaks, finished with the figures of 8.2-0-40-3.

Freddie Woodman rejects Leeds United move

Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has turned down a summer move to Leeds United, according to a new report which emerged on Wednesday morning.

The Lowdown: Leeds eye up Casilla replacement

Marcelo Bielsa is on the lookout for a second-choice goalkeeper this summer, following Kiko Casilla’s season-long loan move to Elche.

While Illan Meslier remains the clear first-choice between the sticks, having an able deputy is important, should the Frenchman get injured.

The Latest: Woodman rejects Whites move

According to Football Insider, Newcastle stopper Woodman has turned down the opportunity to join Leeds, with the 24-year-old thought to be one of three targets between the sticks.

A Thorp Arch source has claimed the Whites intended to sign the Englishman on loan, with a view to making the move permanent further down the line.

Woodman’s desire to be first-choice somewhere appears to be the key reason behind him rejecting the switch.

The Verdict: Would have been ideal

This is a setback for Leeds, with the £9million-rated Newcastle man a perfect backup to Meslier, having made 88 Championship appearances in his career, including playing every single league match for Swansea last season.

Granted, he has no Premier League experience as a starter, but he has played enough football to fill in for Meslier when, or if, required.

Leeds now need to move on, however, acquiring a similarly suitable second-choice option ahead of next season. As it stands, one injury to Meslier would leave the goalkeeping depth worryingly thin.

In other news, Leeds are interested in signing a Premier League ‘big six’ player this summer. Find out who it is here.

Reduction in Hawke Cup challenges likely

The number of Hawke Cup challenges each summer will be reduced if a recommendation to a forum of district associations of New Zealand Cricket is accepted this weekend

Lynn McConnell01-Jul-2002The number of Hawke Cup challenges each summer will be reduced if a recommendation to a forum of district associations of New Zealand Cricket is accepted this weekend. The reduction will affect the South Island which until this year had two challengers. However, with only eight districts, five in Canterbury and three in Otago – compared to eight in Northern Districts and seven in Central Districts – it has been recommended that the winners of the Canterbury and Otago elimination series play off to decide the South Island challenger.Up until this year there had been five annual challenges, one from each of the zones, and the fifth from a play-off between the second-placed sides in Northern Districts and Central Districts.Manawatu is the Hawke Cup holder at the moment. The thinking behind the reduction of challenges is to free up more resources for associations across the board.
