In a Q&A for Football.London, Alasdair Gold has confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.

What did he say?

Reports in recent days have suggested that Spurs are eyeing a move for the Frenchman this summer, and any potential switch would see Zouma be reunited with his former boss at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho.

And according to Gold, that previous link means the current Spurs manager will “know him inside out”, but admitted that any fee to sign him could prove to be out of the north London side’s reach.

When asked whether there is “any legitimacy in the links”, he said: “There will be interest there. Mourinho signed him for Chelsea and will know him inside out and at 25 there’s plenty to work with when it comes to Zouma. However, for me, with three years left on his deal and Chelsea not likely to be desperate to deal with Spurs, any fee would be massive and something Tottenham would struggle with this year.”

Out of all the managers he has played under at Chelsea, Zouma featured the most under Mourinho, playing 49 games for the Portuguese man and even scoring four goals too.

The £25.2m-rated ace had been a regular under Frank Lampard for the first-half of the season, but the last couple of months before football was postponed, saw him fall out of the starting eleven.

He played just twice in Chelsea’s last eight Premier League games, and at 25, is at the stage of his career when playing first-team football week-in and week-out should surely be at the top of the agenda.

And having played under Mourinho before, a move to Spurs may be all the more appealing. But as Gold suggests, Chelsea are unlikely to let him go on the cheap, so the north London side may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.

With various Arsenal players signing new contracts last week such as David Luiz and Cedric Soares, it looks likely that young prospect Bukayo Saka is close to following suit.

According to David Ornstein, who writes for The Athletic on Arsenal matters, the Gunners are putting the finishing touches to a new long-term contract for Saka that will settle his future at the club.

Saka has had a fine breakthrough season for the north London side. He is only one of the first names on the team sheet.

He has played 11 times as a left-back, seven times as a left-winger, twice as an attacking midfielder and once as a left midfielder, per Transfermarkt, which also shows how versatile he is and highlights his enormous potential.

Saka has made 33 appearances this season, scoring three times and picking up 10 assists. He has also managed 1.4 tackles a game, per WhoScored, which highlights he has been solid defensively as well.

The academy graduate looks happy to stay and be a part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the long-term future.

Therefore, the news of him signing a new contract will be a great boost for both the club and its supporters and hopefully Arsenal can tie down a few more of his team-mates for the long-term so that they can improve upon their Premier League position next season.

Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United will be a “powerful force” to be reckoned with when the Premier League restarts. 

Before football was suspended in response to the coronavirus crisis, United had gone 11 games unbeaten, and key players Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba are now fully fit after long injury layoffs. The Red Devils duo have made a full recovery and will be available for the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Friday.

Redknapp feels their return will give the team a huge boost going into the fixture. Speaking to The Sky Sports Football Podcast, the former Liverpool star said: “There are important players coming back.

“If you look at Manchester United right now, they’ve got a young man in Marcus Rashford who is now fit for his team. That’s going to be amazing to have him back for United.

“It’s like a brand new signing – one of the best centre forwards in the world or wide players, wherever you want to play him. So I think United will look at that and think ‘we’ve got a real chance’.

“It will be interesting to see the dynamic in midfield, too, with Paul Pogba coming back as well. There’s so much talent in that area now and if you can get that midfield working together then you’ve got a really big chance.

“Teams will be nervous about United. The likes of Chelsea that are already in the top four will be looking over their shoulder.”

It is hard to argue with Redknapp here, as Rashford is United’s leading goalscorer this season, so having him back should be a huge fillip for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 22-year-old, who recently made the headlines for his open letter to the government, scored 14 goals in 22 games in the Premier League before sustaining a back injury in January.

Although Pogba has only played 521 minutes of competitive action, he has averaged 2.3 key passes per game, via WhoScored.

Solskjaer’s side are currently fifth in the table, just three points behind Frank Lampard’s Chelsea with nine games remaining of the 2019/20 campaign. As it stands, the tie with Tottenham is surely a must-win as both teams seek to challenge for Champions League football next season.

Meanwhile, former United boss Jose Mourinho has been beset by multiple setbacks, as Spurs stars Dele Alli and Japhet Tanganga will miss the match later this week, and it remains to be seen if Giovani Lo Celso will be available for selection.

As Rashford and Pogba have missed a chunk of games due to injury, they will surely be looking to prove a point and make up for lost time.

متى بدأت ممارسة كرة القدم بالتحديد؟

“لقد بدأت في تاون شيب من خلال الشارع والفناء الخلفي للمنزل، ولكن إذا كنت تسألني على المستوى الاحترافي كان ذلك في سن الثامنة عشر في جومو كوزموس، ولكن في سن السادسة والسابعة عشر كنت ألعب بالفعل في دوري الدرجة الأولى والثانية”.

من هو مثلك الأعلى وقدوتك في كرة القدم؟

“عندما كنت في الحادية أو الثانية عشر من العمر كان هناك لاعب يدعى فينسنت ماكروتي، هوسما خوجا والأخير كان يسمى تيب تيب وكان لاعبًا رائعًا للغاية، هؤلاء هم مثلي الأعلى في كرة القدم في طفولتي”.

وتابع: “لكن عندما بدأت في متابعة كرة القدم بشكل مختلف في سن أكبر، كان لدي لاعبين آخرين مثل نيلسون تياندج وجومو سونو”.

أي نادي تشجع برشلونة أو ريال مدريد؟

“ريال مدريد”.

وما هي توقعاتك لمشوار الأهلي في كأس العالم للأندية (قبل سحبه من اليابان)؟

“مواجهة فريق ياباني في البداية، أتمنى أن نتفادى تشيلسي في نصف النهائي ونواجه فريقًا من أمريكا الجنوبية أو الشمالية، ثم تشيلسي في النهائي”.

هل تتوتر قبل المباريات الكبيرة، وكيف تتعامل مع الأمر؟

“أتوتر دائمًا قبل كل المباريات، حتى قبل الوديات، أفكر في كل شيء يمكن أن يحدث في المباراة، من سيسجل؟ كيف سنلعب؟ ما هي الطريقة التي سنسجل بها الأهداف؟ كيف نتفادى اهتزاز شباكنا؟، لذلك أتوتر قبل كل مباراة ولا أعتقد أن هناك مدربًا لا يشعر بذلك، هذا يأتي من خلال عدم يقينك من الفوز، وذلك ما مررت به في الدوري الجنوب إفريقي والدوري المصري في السنوات الماضية”.

“لا يوجد أصعب من جماهير الأهلي من حيث الضغط، لم أر من قبل ولن أر مثلهم في المستقبل، لأنهم يحبون الفريق وكرة القدم ويرغبون دائمًا في الفوز ولا يفكرون في سواه، توقعاتهم عالية دائمًا بشأن الفريق، يضغطون على المدرب من أجل الفوز ولكن هذا الثمن الذي تدفعه عندما تكون مدربًا للأهلي.

بماذا تصف الأهلي في كلمة واحدة؟

“نادي الأمة”.

ما هي التغييرات التي تحلم أن تراها في كرة القدم خلال العشر سنوات المقبلة؟

“أتمنى أن يكون هناك اهتمام بالقارة التي أنتمي لها، تطوير الملاعب خاصة للأندية التي تشارك في بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا وتوفير ملاعب خاصة للتدريب لهم، بعض البلدان لديها ملاعب جيدة للغاية خاصة في جنوب إفريقيا، كذلك في تنزانيا مثل ملعب سيمبا، ولكن ليس لديهم ملعب للتدريب من أجل الفريق الزائر، وهذا هو الفارق بين دوري أبطال إفريقيا ودوري أبطال أوروبا، هناك اهتمام بالبنية التحتية وإذا قمنا بتطويرها ستفيد الكرة الإفريقية كثيرًا”.

According to The Daily Express, Tottenham are weighing up making a late move for Lille star Victor Osimhen.

What’s the word?

When both Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were out injured at the same time earlier this year, it became really clear to see that Spurs lacked genuine depth up top.

Reports in the January transfer window had suggested Olivier Giroud was being lined up as a potential option, but a deal failed to materialise. Now, The Daily Express claim that Spurs could join rivals Liverpool, and Serie A giants Napoli in the race to sign Osimhen, who struck an impressive 18 goals across all competitions last season.

The report claims that Napoli have already met Lille’s asking price of £75m, and that the Jose Mourinho’s side have been tracking as the Nigerian as they search for more support for Kane.

The old-school way of playing two up top may have slowly died out in the Premier League, but Osimhen’s arrival in north London could see Mourinho throw it back.

And with Osimhen’s ability to play in a front-two (Lille used the 4-4-2 in their last seven league games), him and Kane could strike up a devastating partnership of a couple of proven goal-scorers.
