Man United’s Sam Johnstone is not good enough for West Ham

West Ham United are lining up a £4m move for Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to solve their goalkeeping problems, as per the Mirror.

The 25-year-old Englishman has enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Aston Villa but has never played a Premier League match so it feels like the Hammers could set their sights higher.

What’s the story?

The report states that West Ham will send Joe Hart back to Manchester City this summer and want Johnstone, of their city rivals United to replace him on a permanent basis.

Johnstone’s United contract was recently extended via an automatic one-year clause, according to the report, which means that the Old Trafford club will be entitled to a fee for the English goalkeeper.

The stopper is valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt but the report claims the Hammers are eyeing up a £4m swoop to convince Jose Mourinho to part with Johnstone.

West Ham can do better

There are some positives to signing Johnstone; he is young for a goalkeeper, he is English, he is hungry to prove himself, he has enjoyed a good season at Villa Park and £4m is cheap in the current market.

But the fact remains that he hasn’t made a Premier League appearance at the age of 25. He hasn’t experienced the scrutiny that comes with being a first-choice top flight goalkeeper and West Ham is a very tough place to learn your trade right now.

A more experienced goalkeeper is needed to inspire confidence behind a defence that has suffered badly with injuries and departures in recent months.

West Ham fans want to see greater signs of ambition at their club and I don’t think that the signing of Johnstone will satisfy their fanbase, who are looking for heavy investment in experienced Premier League campaigners this summer.

HYS: Should Eric Dier or Victor Wanyama start vs Man United?

Mauricio Pochettino will have been disappointed to see his Tottenham Hotspur side only manage a draw against Brighton on Tuesday night, but the north London club’s attentions at this point in the season are firmly focused on the FA Cup.

With Manchester City and Liverpool both eliminated from the tournament, many are viewing this year’s FA Cup as Tottenham’s best chance of grabbing a trophy that acknowledges the incredible progress the club has made in recent seasons.

In order to do that, however, Tottenham will have to beat Manchester United in Saturday’s semi-final and accordingly, Pochettino’s team selection will have to be somewhere near perfect.

And considering the quality United boast in the middle-to-final thirds, selecting the right defensive midfielder could prove key. England international Eric Dier has occupied that role in the engine room on the most part this season, but Victor Wanyama played the full ninety minutes there against Brighton.

It wasn’t exactly an imposing display from the Kenyan but he provided an important and sturdy platform in midfield and would have played a hand in a clean sheet had Serge Aurier not tripped Jose Izquierdo inside the box for a penalty that was largely against the run of play.

So, Tottenham fans, who would you prefer to start in defensive midfield against the Red Devils? Let us know by voting below…

Everton fans celebrate news Mirallas wants to leave

Everton fans have been reacting to the news that Kevin Mirallas wants to leave the club permanently, and let’s just say the Belgian might want to stay off Twitter for a few days.

Kevin Mirallas was a popular figure at the height of his Everton career. Fans were able to overlook his inconsistencies thanks to his passion for the shirt and his aggressive, exciting wing play.

The Belgian winger managed 29 league goals in 151 appearances for the Toffees, but fans eventually grew tired of him being world class twice a season and not even showing up in the other games.

He moved back to Olympiacos on loan in January, the club where he made his name, but has had little to no success, managing just two goals in 11 league appearances.

“I have stated that I want to stay,” Mirallas told Greek publication SDNA when asked about his future at Olympiacos.

“But it is something for which there is no development, since it will be discussed at the end of the year.”

If the 30 year-old was hoping for an outpouring of fans begging him not to leave, he might want to stay off social media, as fans are practically praising the heavens that his time at Goodison is done.

Newcastle fans destroy Sunderland for relegation

Sunderland were officially relegated to League One on Saturday, and it’s fair to say Newcastle fans are enjoying themselves.

Chris Coleman’s Sunderland completely capitulated on Saturday, giving up their slender lead in the closing stages as relegation rivals Burton Albion scored two late goals to steal all three points at the Stadium of Light.

The 2-1 defeat has left the Black Cats officially relegated, and they are on pace for a historically bad home record after yet another shocker at home.

As if today couldn’t get any worse for the Black Cats, their arch-rivals are rubbing salt in the wound, mercilessly mocking the Wearside club for their troubles.

Newcastle fans were amused this week when Sunderland mistakenly cancelled several tickets for their final home game against Wolves after a Geordie joke on Twitter, and it just gets better and better for the Toon Army.

Not only are the Magpies flying in the Premier League, their old foes have suffered the infamous double drop, and will of course now be in the same league as Accrington Stanley, who were promoted from League Two last weekend.

"Iranian Messi" Azmoun is not ready for Everton move

According to reports, Everton could be set to battle Wolves for the signing of “the Iranian Messi” – Rubin Kazan striker Sardar Azmoun

What’s the story?

The report from Teamtalk claims Everton face a battle from Wolves, Leicester and Celtic for the 23 year-old, with Wolves currently leading the way.

Liverpool were linked with Azmoun in the past, and he has continued to impress in Russia with his guile and clinical finishing.

The report says Everton and Celtic both showed interest in the striker last year, and they will pick up where they left off this summer.

With 23 goals in 31 caps for Iran, there’s no doubt Azmoun knows where the back of the net is – but is he good enough for Everton yet?

[ad_pod ]

Smart move to Merseyside?

The 23 year old’s fantastic international record is offset somewhat by his slightly worrying output for his club, scoring just four times in the league this season in 24 appearances, though 13 of those did come as a substitute.

Azmoun is strong in the air and a lethal finisher when he gets the chance, but he is still quite a raw talent.

In a similar way to Alexis Sanchez, he loves to do little flick-ons and mazy runs with the ball, but in a much less refined way than the Chilean, which would make him a risk for the Toffees.

How many of those little flicks could he try before the Goodison crowd got fed up of them not working?

After the massive summer spending spree last year, Everton need to be extremely careful not to repeat the same mistakes, and signing Azmoun would be a big risk.

Everton fans, would you back a move for the Iranian Messi? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Man United fans react to suggestive Timothy Fosu-Mensah Twitter post

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah posted on Twitter after his loan spell with Crystal Palace came to an end on Sunday and suggested that he won’t be returning to the Eagles, and Red Devils fans were quick to react.

The 6ft 3in tall right-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, had something of a rollercoaster campaign with the south London club, being something of a regular in the XI up until February, before he was then struggling to make Roy Hodgson’s matchday squad in the final couple of months of the campaign.

Meanwhile, United manager Jose Mourinho could be looking to sign a defensive midfielder and right-back this summer, although Fosu-Mensah will hope that he can stop the Portuguese manager needing to strengthen in one of those positions by making a big impact in pre-season.

Man United supporters, who didn’t enjoy the performance of a 20-year-old in the 1-0 win against Watford on Sunday, took to social media to respond to the Netherlands international’s message, and while one said “come home now”, another said “welcome back to United my bro”.

Revealed: Majority of Aston Villa fans want to stick with 4-1-4-1 formation vs Fulham

Aston Villa will look to secure a return to the Premier League following a two-year absence when they face Fulham in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday.

The Midlands outfit saw off Middlesbrough 1-0 on aggregate over two legs in their semi-final tie, with manager Steve Bruce deploying a 4-1-4-1 system in both matches.

Mile Jedinak was the man tasked with sitting in front of the back four and providing that shield, and it certainly worked as the Villans kept two clean sheets.

[ad_pod ]

They may well need that protection again against a free-scoring Fulham, with Slavisa Jokanovic’s fluid 4-3-3 formation seeing them finish the league campaign as the second-top goalscorers in the division behind champions Wolverhampton Wanderers.

We at Football Fancast suggested previously that Bruce should perhaps look to be a little more adventurous and also select a 4-3-3 system because he has the players that would excel in, and it would likely shock the Cottagers ahead of the encounter.

We asked Aston Villa fans to vote on our poll to see which formation out of the two they would prefer Bruce to use on Saturday, and a majority 62% want him to play it safe and not take any risks by sticking with the trusted 4-1-4-1.

It will certailyn be interesting to see what the 57-year-old chooses to do this weekend, as he looks to lead the club back to the promised land.

Milinkovic-Savic’s physicality and artistry make him perfect for Man United

Lazio have set the asking price for Manchester United midfield target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic at a whopping £87.5m this summer according to the Daily Mail.

That will reportedly serve to cool United’s interest but the Serbian maestro is the perfect man to complete their midfield trio, alongside Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.

What’s the story, then?

The Mail claim that the asking price had previously been set at £70m, and Milinkovic-Savic has been offered to United at various stages of the season at that valuation.

The report says that Real Madrid have shown an interest in the midfielder, which has served to push the value of the player up by £17.5m.

It goes on to say that bump has put United off, as they are not sure where he would fit into their side, especially with a deal for Fred, also a midfielder, reportedly moving closer.

Milinkovic-Savic is the man

Both Milinkovic-Savic and Fred are unknown quantities in Premier League terms, with high reputations and price tags but uncertainty over their ability to adapt to English football.

However, Jose Mourinho has been obsessed with physicality in his United side for far too long and it seems like the signing of Fred would be another step in that direction.

The Serbian is a physical player, able to handle himself but also with the technical ability and flair to, alongside Pogba, haul United forward from deep.

Manchester City’s title canter was engineered by two number 10s – Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva – playing from deep and United would have a duo capable of similar in Pogba and Milinkovic-Savic.

West Ham fans hate links to Jay Rodriguez

West Ham fans all agree they don’t want Jay Rodriguez, after the West Brom striker was linked with a move to East London.

With Manuel Pellegrini likely to play two up front at the London Stadium next season, the Hammers will probably be linked with every striker under the sun this summer, but fans don’t like the latest links.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham are one of four Premier League sides interested in Rodriguez, alongside Burnley, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

The Englishman scored seven times in 37 Premier League appearances last season, and is likely to be one of a number of players to leave the Hawthorns this summer.

The 28 year-old, who earned an England cap after his brilliant form for Southampton back in 2013, probably would have gone to the 2014 World Cup if not for a knee injury.

Tottenham fans desperate for Bailey deal

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have been told that they will have to come up with £60m in order to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Leon Bailey this summer.

Bailey, 20, joined Leverkusen from Genk in January 2017, and the attacker has gone from strength to strength during his time in the Bundesliga.

Indeed, the Jamaican ended the 2017-18 campaign with 12 goals and six assists in 34 appearances in all competitions.

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Bailey, whilst the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid are also believed to be admirers.
